BOF is still around for off-roading because there's a demand for it, not because it's needed.

anyway, this has NOTHING to do with palisade and explorer.

UNIBODY is more than capable with the right powertrain, tow class / package
Just because you can doesnt mean you should lol. If you tow a lot how long before the body starts to creak and rattle from the additional stress that is at times more than 100% of its own weight?

My mom's side of the family used to tow their Blue Water boat all the time with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Up in the Cascades in Oregon. Not the heaviest boat in the world, but no issues I'm aware of.

But if you tow all the time, odds are you have a BOF Truck or Full size SUV. Still it's nice for these unibody's to give you the option every now and then.

^^ ha. i'm sure the new explorer is a GREAT drive, but i just can't get past the interior. i guess an aviator is basically a fancy explorer, as an option.

Fair enough, to each their own

When our local Ford/Lincoln has a better selection I'll have mom try the Explorer Platinum as I prefer V6 to the turbo4 (though I shouldn't judge till I drive one), and a base Aviator back to back. Her 2008 RX350 is getting long in the tooth, and the cargo area/second row is getting worn because of her two GSD's one 85lbs and one 110lbs

I'm saving most of my comments for my (upcoming) full-review, but I did check out a new 2020 Explorer ST this morning, without a test-drive...it was the only new Explorer in stock close to my house. I had mixed-opinions on it. Overall, I liked the previous 2019 better...the 2020 had some compromises in the interior, fit/finish, materials, niceness of the paint job, design/location of the engine start/stop button, video-screen, and some gimmicky new features like the rotary-shifter, although I know that some of you like the rotary-shifters (and I respect your opinions). And, on a vehicle that can, in some versions, list for more than 60K fully-loaded, a manual prop-rod under the hood?.....Give me a break.

Rather have a fully loaded Explorer than a fully loaded KIA or Hyundai. Would probably still want a 4Runner over and above any of these.

I don't see these vehicles appealing to the same buyers. Explorer is a cut above IMO. RWD, 365hp turbo option, I4 option, hybrid option. Base price is $5500 more as well.

Did your outgoing Buick Verano not have a hood prop?

You would be surprised at how many cross-over or unibodies are now showing up at the marina we use. Lots of real BOF trucks/SUVS for the large boats, but cross overs for the smaller vessels. Lots of full size body on frame SUVs everywhere I must say.

Veranos don't cost 60K fully loaded. They started in the low-mid 20s

I believe you. More and more CUVs are becoming quite capable with the right tow equipment, powertrain, package (hd alternator/ radiator) etc...
