If you smash the window in my Toyota, you can pull the hood lever without the alarm going off. If you smash the window in the new car you are referring to, you must open the door from the inside to reach the hood lever which would immediately set off the door alarm

Well, that right there is a subject worth of protest.

I agree that the omission of a hood strut on a $60K vehicle is cheap. That said, I have both hood props and struts, the struts on my 4Runner do not keep the hood up when the weather is cold, so I guess I would rather have a prop. As for no hood insulation pad, that is a bit of a disappointment.

Your 4 Runner needs new hood struts

If costs are going to be cut, I'd rather it be a strut under the hood than something inside the cabin that I would look at or touch every day.

Problem is, with the new Explorer, they cut both....especially in the XLT trim.

why would you protest people not opening their hoods? i've only opened the hood on my g90 twice. once just to see what it looked like and the other time to put some more washer fluid in because i figured i had to have used a ton of it.

OK, so you were fortunate. But sometimes small, subtile signs of trouble can start under the hood (small fluid leaks, stains, minor rattles/squeaks, insect-nests, rodent-chewing, etc...) that, if left undetected, can, and sometimes do, grow worse. Simply looking under the hood twice a year won't always cut it. Why do you think I spend time, on my full-reviews, describing what the underhood compartment of the vehicle is like, and/or how simple or difficult it might be for short, weak, or partially-disabled persons to open or close the hood? Rest assured....I don't do that just to keep the keyboard of my computer exercised.

The hood is aluminum and very light. No issue raising it and using a prop rod.

Not necessarily for you or me, but a five-foot person might be a different story.....this is a fairly high-stance vehicle and hood.

But then even with gas struts they wouldn't be able to close the hood because they wouldn't be able to reach it.

Things are designed with average people in mind. You can't design something that works perfectly for everybody regardless of their height and build.

Oh, I agree...Jack-of-all-Trades often means a Master of None. But higher-stance vehicles are becoming quite popular today, and that is just one of the shortcomings they mean for shorter people.
