Post Q45 vs SC

Hey,
What do you guys think of the 1994 Infiniti Q45? I have a chance to get one for $6000 with 100K miles. Is the performance comparable to the SC?
Thanks,
Jake

Sorry to say, but the q-45 will blow the doors of the SC

My dad has a 1992 Q45. Owned it since 94. I have driven it alot and yes it is faster than a sc400. They are different cars. The Q has weak breaks and light streeing. Horrible turning circle, god I cant even park it. Hehe. The Q has a smoother and more powerful engine. Better interior build quality. The seats in his Q still look new. Lexus handles way better and looks 1000 times more sexy. My dad has put 80,000 miles on the Q and other than normal fluid changes only 2 things have gone wrong with it. The motor that raises the window gave out and the amp that powers one of the front speakers died. Thats it. There both great cars, if the Q is nice and clean go for it.

Hey guys -

Not trying to argue but, a simple reference to 0-60 and 1/4 times show that the Q and SC are almost identical, and in most cases the SC is a tenth or two faster. Especially the newer SCs. Q's are rated rather poorly for reliability, whereas SCs are one of the highest rated cars (in terms of reliability), ever, along with any other Lexus. I'm in no way saying a Q45 is a bad car. But if you do some research you'll soon find it doesn't stack up to a SC, not even close. Good luck!

May be more responsive, but I SMASHED on my friend's J30t. Was not even close. I gave him the head start and let him go without a starter and he still got beat....bad. Think the same engine as the 300ZX but heavy and goofy looking.

Early Infiniti models like the J30, I30 and the Q45 are just POS...You going to have a lot of tranny problems and other things to worry about..Why degrade yourself...You can't go wrong with a LEX...

The new Infiniti lineup, however, is a totally different ballgame..

The Q45 is a Sirly old mans car in my opinion. The front emblem has flowers around the Infinity name, kind of feminine if you ask me. I’ve ridden in many of them and while the engine is quite peppy, I have not come across an older one with a decent interior. I prefer the reliable Lexus SC, which is considered by many one of the best cars ever, built.

I beat a new 2003 model (I knew because the sticker was still on window) in my 1993 sc400 from a stand still. My PI torque converter gave me a huge jump off the line. All I can say is that the other driver was extremely suprised.

Thanks for all the feedback. I drove the Q45 and it seemed really quick. I will probably get the Q45 and keep the Lexus.

A friend owned a Q45 around that age... cost him a FORTUNE in repair bills. Good luck!

my friends dad just sold his '93 Q45 with 180k miles

only problems- power window motor......

still on the original radiator, water pump, power steering pump... everything

the original Qs are awesome cars, I'd choose one over an LS anyday the 4.5L V8 really screams

the J30 is another supremely reliable car... kinda dont like the back end unless it has the sports package spoiler though

Q45 was pretty reliable but ones with the active suspension were prone to breaking down. The 4.5 is a great engine. The interior is sporty, it is drivers oriented (turned towards the driver) but boasts no or little wood. The grilless face is a hate/love item (I like it). Good for 278hp.

The J30 is discontinued of course, it boasts RWD and 210 hp from the old 3.0 VQ engine used in the 300ZX. Reliable and nice interior but small and it looks (IMO) quite ugly.

Q45 vs SC, well both are good cars but 1 is GREAT. I was a 6 time best 10 winner. 1 was a car of the year winner. 1 was chosen of having the best interior of ANY car. 1 was and still is the coupe standard.

If u do not need the space, the SC gets my vote.
I just hope that I can find a club for Infiniti and cool as Clublexus.
Never, I read the Nissan/Infinti forums and they are smoking some powerful stuff.

I know that the biggest problem with Q45's are their Fuel Injectors. I called my local Infiniti dealer and they quoted me $1800 to replace all eight of them. Thats crazy.
