my only reason i'd get this is i want a 4runner with a V8, toyota doesn't want to make that easy, a GX is the next best thing

Although the GX does show some similiarities to the 4Runner in its general layout, it actually comes from a different platform....the Toyota Prado (or Land Cruiser Prado), which is not sold in the U.S.

Agree, but the brand has definitely become stale. The new guys on the block (Tesla, Hyundai and Kia) are beginning to steal some buyers. Lexus has done a good job on their lower end models, but the upper end has been largely ignored. Yes an all new LS recently came out, but it did not even have Apple Car Play until last month or so. APC is not innovation, just giving customers what they want. It’s a shame we still have an ‘old’ GX, LX, LC, Tundra and Sequoia. I am just guessing, but if these models were updated, I would think they would be selling in higher numbers.
Its 2019, how the heck to we have a 5.7 that only gets about 15 mpg? Yes, a great engine that is built to last, but nobody wants only 15 mpg. I expect more from Lexus. They were the pioneer when they were at their peak. Not sure they are at that level today.

While the GX is built like a tank and the most solid vehicle I have driven in the Lexus lineup, and that included the LS460, it doesnt particularly handle broken pavements and expansion joints all that well. It is quite jolting as a matter of fact. I myself dont mind the ride quality, but passengers complain. I do love how quiet and solid it feels and the 3rd row is actually useable, but does it outweigh the ride quality over bad pavements, I will see in another 2 yrs when my lease is up. It has gotten me thinking about getting a LX (used) or the new highlander but a unibody vehicle like the Highlander or RX just doesnt have that same tank like quality that I have grown addicted to. I didnt even mind the $65 3/4 tank gas bill so a used LX and its even worse gas mileage might be tolerable but I will also be giving up the touchscreen from the GX moving to the newer LX and its remote touch shenanigans.

I'm actually considering a used GX and have been looking at the '14's and up. The tech is definitely dated but I'm fine with that. It won't be a daily and I will probably use it at some point to tow the Supra to a track event. I've been back and forth between GX and T4R Limited but GX checks all the boxes.

Debatable. The Prado, GX, 4Runner, and FJ all ride on the same basic platform (not referring to the BOF). Hence why you can swap out components on each easily.

I wasn't implying that the GX does not have any lightweight or plastic parts at all.....we both know that is not true. What I meant by the term "Built" is that the GX is designed to go through tough physical conditions......and has a frame, body, drivetrain, and underpinnings designed for it. With the general lack of road-maintenance in this area and the constantly-deteriorating infrastructure, I'm tempted to get a GX myself LOL.

I think you mean to say it will survive rough pavements and craters with ease. Gliding over rough pavements and craters with any sort of ease is an overstatement and not something I am experiencing, although unless you actually own one, it does give off that impression based on what people and some reviewers say.

well then it's the 4runner shares the platform with the GX... either way the 5th gen 4runner, GX, and prado are all 'related' on wikipedia lol
