Get used to it, folks....a lot more is coming.
Ford and GM, by their actions of the last six months, have thoroughly p***ed-off everyone from the night-janitors in their plants all the way up to the highest Heads of State and Government in two separate countries (and several different states in the U.S.). They have made a lot of new enemies, and it is coming home to roost. The climate has reached the point that if company officials so much as spit on the sidewalk or toss a piece of litter on the street, the authorities are going to come after them with a ton of bricks. They won't be able to use a stall in the Men's or Ladies' Room without a G-Person or legislator breathing down their neck.

Respectfully I'll say, that cannot be further from the truth. Auto workers do not have a conspiracy against their bosses and they do not have the power to influence corporate model decisions. You may be pissed off that GM is killing your favorite sedans (yes, GM and Ford went a bit overboard), but the rest of the world is moving on. I encourage you to see through recent trends and try to accept that poorly rated products *do not sell well,* and therefor get the ax. Again, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and the Koreans do very well moving their sedans. Have to set aside your biases and look at the big picture.

Just another blow to the perception of US brand of cars. Sad, but staying away from American made cars is good decision for the most part. Poor reliability, poor resale, and the idea that the emissions are faked. All for corporate profits. Who knows if this is true or not, but if there is smoke, there usually is fire.

And that's the key. While the VW scandal did set a precedent (and I'll concede that).......Ford and GM have gotten themselves to the point where the authorities are going to come after them for the smallest and slightest infractions. It is hard to imagine how many people with power and influence they have angered in the last six months....you cannot do that and not expect to pay a price.

Sigh. Back room sleaze and politics as usual. Donald Trump and FoMoCo have been at odds with each other for quite awhile. Normally the US corporations run government and that's been reflected by the total gutting of the agency that oversees emissions etc. This time around it's US corptocracy having a moment with an uncooperative prez.
This is just the Trump administration getting back at Ford for not backing the President's job agenda in his vote rich states. He's got a new DoJ guy and that guy is after a trophy. There is no spitting on sidewalks, looking at people the wrong way. It's just Washington and Detroit's usual dealmaking when an election is nigh. There will be a deal. The beat goes on.
