DIY: Door Hinge Replacement
Here’s how to replace a car door hinge that’s sagging:
When a hinge is worn, the door drops and doesn’t align with the latch or other body panels:
The fender, headlight, bumper and fender liner need to be removed and/or loosened to get access to the hinges. Here the headlight bolts are loosened along the radiator support:
The fender liner bolts are removed next:
A bolt underneath holds the splash guard:
The bumper pulls away from the fender, revealing more bolts that hold the headlight to the fender:
Three 10mm bolts are removed:
One 10mm bolt behind the hood hinge:
One bolt above the upper door hinge:
One more bolt behind the triangle in front the mirror:
Remove the fender:
To save these clips they have to be removed from the inside:
Fender removed:
I got used hinges from the junkyard for $8 each from a Toyota Tundra and a Sienna:
Hinge bolts are 12 mm. The door bolts here were already loosened:
Finally the door is tested and the body panels are but together. Things are a lot smoother now without a drooping door!
Enjoy!
