2020 Jeep Gladiator Pickup
The 2020 Jeep Gladiator will come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can be mated to an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. We'd wager it'll offer the same 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque as in other Wrangler applications. Bigger news is the optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. If it's in the same state of tune as it is in the Grand Cherokee, the Gladiator's diesel will spin out 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.
The Gladiator's spec sheet lists its max tow rating at 7,600 pounds (probably with the diesel engine) and payload at 1,600 pounds. Two four-wheel-drive systems will be available, and beefy Dana 44 axles joined with electronic lockers front and rear should make the Gladiator a well-sorted off-road machine. Other noteworthy bits include an electronic swaybar disconnect and 33-inch tires.
One thing that the Jeep Gladiator will offer that no competitor can match is its open-air capability. We'd expect a soft top to be standard, and this document says two hard tops will also be offered. A five-foot bed offers practicality, and a fold-down windshield ought to please the purists.

I really dig it. Small lift and aggressive AT tires, it will be a looker. Of course around here all the parking lot prowlers will pull the fenders, put on a big lift, a high lift jack, exterior mount gas cans, roof rack, a million watts of "off road" lighting and the like so they can brave ALL the paved areas of North Texas.

Beautiful. Sometimes manufacturers tease and don't deliver, but Jeep did. This has a very Hummer H1 pickup vibe to it. They will sell a ton of these because now you have something that Wrangler fans will not see coming and going on suburban roads all day long (at least until it becomes too popular).

Yawn. This didn't even need to be disguised the last few years of development. Jeep hasn't changed the front or cabin of the Wrangler in decades, and now all that's added is a pick-up bed. No surprises and nothing special, but it will sell great.

Before you yawn, though, isn't that more or less the Wrangler's intention? It hasn't stayed in production since 1941 (with its resulting popularity) by tossing out the book every couple of years.

Yes to all. And hence the yawn. It's the same look and function since the 40's. Jeep buyers are not into newness. They are into JEEP.
