Yes....good point. I had forgotten that the new Bronco was going to be BOF. Ordinarily, their numbers seem to get fewer and fewer each year.

I imagine it would be an exclusive option. GM won't let you touch the 6.2 unless you buy an LTZ/SLT or higher trim, and even then it's an option on those models so more $$$(the main reason I eliminated GM from my search. The 5.3 was too anemic and I didn't want to option up to get the 6.2). Ford makes you buy a Raptor or a Limited to get the H.O. Ecoboost. The Navigator gets a peppier version of the engine than the Expedition gets.

I don't blame you and wouldn't want the 5.3 either when the 6.2 is there, but it's crazy times when a consumer isn't satisfied with an engine that can haul a 1500 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, that that's "not enough".

I am still positive that my 5.7 hemi would blow the doors of a chevy 6.2, because gearing.

I will time the 0-60 of my truck with the app on my phone.

It isn't about how big the engine is. If you put a 4 banger in a 1 ton pickup, and gear it (numerically) high enough, it will out-accelerate a Veyron to a certain speed. But ya gotta gear it right. For instance 2019 Ram has the 8hp75 8-Speed auto. Gear ratios are:
  1. 5.000
  2. 3.200
  3. 2.143
  4. 1.720
  5. 1.314
  6. 1.000
  7. 0.822
  8. 0.640
Final: 3.92:1

GM 8L90 (for argument we will use the equivalent trans):
  1. 4.560
  2. 2.970
  3. 2.080
  4. 1.690
  5. 1.270
  6. 1.000
  7. 0.850
  8. 0.650
Final: 3.23:1

Now, because of the nature of gearing and torque multiplication, the higher the number, the lower the gear ratio (faster you accelerate). In green are the numbers that are numerically higher than the competitor. In red, the numerically lower. The higher the number, the faster the acceleration is. Knowing this, and how closely matched the trucks are for power/torque (390HP/420HP, 420TQ/460TQ), my prediction is a dead even race to 60, with the ram possibly winning due to taking the lead early. If you look at the table above, 5 out of 8 gears are numerically higher in the Ram than in the Sierra. But the final drive is MUCH higher, meaning the ram will accelerate through its gears quicker.

Trust me, I drove both trucks back-to-back, the Sierra is geared for fuel economy, and the Ram is, but to a much lesser extent. The Ram is quicker off the line, and its my bet, quicker to 60 by at least a half second in a real world test.

According to TFLTruck, both the '18 and '19 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi go 0-60 in right around eight seconds. The '17 Silverado 6.2 does it in 7 flat.

So I was looking at truck reviews and I am just scratching my head as to why Ram 1500 with the 5.7L is so slow. It just seems like FCA just skipped investment in engine technology all together. The ride=segment leading, interior=segment leading, can storage=segment leading, drivetrain= meh. To my knowledge the hemi is still port injected when others are using direct or dual injection systems. Iron block when others have long moved on to aluminum or CGI. I mean, I love the truck (why I ordered) but it's slow. A Ford 2.7L EB V6 will beat it to 60mph by a second or more and let's not even talk about the 3.5L EB. A ford 5.0L is faster, a GM 6.2 will blow its doors off and offer better MPG and a GM 5.3L is a tad behind it. Why no direct injection or dual injection for the 5.7? Why no aluminum or CGI block for the 5.7L? IMHO the 5.7L should be putting out around 410hp and 440tq.

IMO, the most likely reason is that FCA may not want to have to deal with the tendency of direct-injected engines to accumulate carbon deposits...they have enough warranty work and reliabilty-related issues on their vehicles as it is. Also, DI engines, in some cases (not all) have pulse-injection noise...and, on the Ram 1500 a least, tackling NVH was obviously an issue in its design.

If you look at the quote again, it also mentions dual-injection systems, which do not have the carbon buildup issue. Ford uses dual injection on all four engines in the F-150: the base 3.3L NA, 2.7L and 3.5L Ecoboost V6s, as well as the newest revision of the 5.0 Coyote V8 introduced last year.

I suspect part of the reason for the higher numbers is that they are testing these trucks in the rocky mountains. Thinner air = reduced power.

Everything I've seen shows the 6.2 GM outrunning the 5.7 Hemi. The 5.0 Coyote and 3.5 Ecoboost will also outrun it, even with RAM having the gearing advantage.

bro and I just picked up a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited 4x4 Gray/Black with Level 1 package, panoramic roof, 22" wheels (will be selling these off), anti spin diff, 33 gallon tank. Ram is running killer factory incentives now. MSRP was 67500. We got 17.8k off, 49.9k + TTL so 53.5k OTD no trade in. Its my first truck so its a big change but we are already liking it a lot. Interior by far is light years ahead of everyone else. Rams are flying off the lot with the factory incentive, the 3-4 i asked about first sold in a couple days and the dealer had to trade the one we have now with another dealer.

Congratulations on the purchase. Rams have had some reliability problems, but you two are probably going to love the way it drives. If comfort was the top priority in a truck, I'd pick the Ram, hands-down....with the Honda Ridgeline in second place, although the GMC Sierra Denali also has a reputation of being comfortable (I haven't sampled a new Sierra, and can't verify it)
