You really shouldn't have expected much for the 2019 model year, but probably deserve some options made standard.

The next generation Highlander, being developed under program code 550B and completed its design freeze in August 2017 (as in no more styling alterations)
Styling is evolutionary, but much sharper and looks a bit like the Infiniti QX60. When you look at the current Highlander, you can see the similarities.
It will utilize TNGA-K and Job 1 is tentatively scheduled for November 25, 2019, with arrival in showrooms in January 2020 as a 2020 model. February 2020 is also a possibility, based on typical 2-month SOP-to-showroom lead time spilling over by 1 week to around February 1, 2020.
The 2020 Highlander will have Apple Car Play, but not Android Auto. Maybe MY 2021 for AA, if Toyota is able to reach an agreement next year, but by then it will be too late because of engineering off being sometime in Q2 of 2019.
Expect an unveiling at NYIAS 2019 and spy shots by winter, as the first prototypes have likely been built.

Interesting stuff, since the RX is based on the Highlander, does this mean that a redesigned RX is in the cards for 2020 (or 2021) as well?
The 2019 Highlander is complete carry over with the exception of a limited production run of a special edition model which will use the parts bin to commemorate the end of the 3rd generation Toyota Highlander. I’ve seen the new 2020 Highlander. It’s a evolution of the current generations overall design, don’t expect a dramatic departure from the current vehicles silhouette. Basically it looks like someone stuck it in the oven for 5 minutes, just enough to melt the hard edge chisled lines and soften them. The front grille is trunkcated and is reminiscent of the 19’ RAV4 limited. The wheelbase has grown and many of the features that you see on the 2019 Avalon and 2019 RAV4 will trickle into the 2020 Highlander. It finally gets standard LED headlights.
