Default how much is $1,000 today

I have $1000 certificates for Lexus and BMW. But I am not in the market, so treat it as spam. But I was thinking, if a person is literally buying (have not read the terms), it would seem very few people would not care about 1k. Even on a house people want a lower price more as a feel good. I would say stop, drop, and do not buy a BMW or Lexus unless you have a $1k off cert. They seem to give them out like candy (cars are priced so high nowadays it's worthwhile to them)...

They just reduce the discount by $1k on whatever they were going to give u anyways. It's just a way of saying the minimum discount you will get is $1k. I toss them out anyways.

I didn't think that was the case, because yes, that is exactly the case with an online buying service or the trademarked "Price Promise." I thought these certs were a trump card. But agreed into the spam folder they go. BMW seems to already be doing 12k off low miles 3 loaner cars, be nice if a person adds another 1k to it.

If you were going to negotiate $5k off a car anyways, they would simply say well the $1k is already accounted for in that $5k discount.

Correct--people get bent out of shape on a home sale over whether or not the (used) fridge is included.

But those offers from dealers are just BS to get you to walk in the door. Rarely are any of them like a mfg incentive where you can take the $1000 off of the best price you negotiate--i.e., you don't tell them until the very end. I'll bet if you didn't have that cert, and walked in the dealer, they'd say "This week, we are offering $1000 off" to everyone.

I do know from experience that with GM, it was legit, meaning you make the deal, and then take the add'l amt. off. Dealer does not care because it's not their loss, it was a mfg. discount. Forums said it's targeted, and has a very specific date to be used. I get it, who would want a GM car. Well I did lol. Same thing with the BMWCCA discount. People sign up at least a year ahead of time, joined and never participated because the membership fee was far less than $1,500. No involvement with dealer it's a rebate. Heck I fill out forms online for $10, I'd take $1k
