A5 sportback is a head turner
They compared $50,000 cars to the $35,000 Stinger. No wonder it lost. If they had used the $50,000 Stinger (GT2 RWD) it would have changed the scoring. In addition to the V-6 horsepower, it has Nappa leather interior, variable suspension, HUD, etc. This test was a mis-match!
Yes, all three were the 2.0t AWD versions of each. I suppose they could have tested the 6 cyl. engines of each but they didn't.

Yes, because of the price. The Audi and BMW were more than 40% more expensive. It's sort of like comparing an Accord to and E300. They both have 2.0T engines, are 4 door sedans, and have similar interior room.

If C&D wanted to go back and do the six cylinder comparison they could. But there will still be a price discrepancy. The Stinger GT with the 3.3L V6 starts at $38,350 ($40,550 with AWD). The Audi S5 Sportback would start at $54,400. The BMW 440i xDrive would start at $53,000. Point is the Stinger represents a value, but when you want to compare apples to apples the powertrain would be the deciding factor here.
Not sure I understand. Did you make a typo? There is no ES300. The ES300h and Accord Hybrid both use 4-cylinders with electric motors which is a fair comparison. The ES350 still uses a V6 and the top spec Accord a 2.0T.
Yes, I made a typo, I meant E300. I fixed it. Thanks
Got it. In which case,
One could compare them on those merits of 2.0T, 4-doors sedans, with similar interior room. Hell I could make the hellacious claim of comparing a 7-Series and a Charger because they are both cars specifically full size sedans with RWD/AWD, V8, and within a few inches in total length. But we know despite those similarities, that where it ends and both are catered towards different audiences and compete against different segments of full size sedans. Back to the Accord and E300, most wouldn't though because of the drivetrain FWD vs RWD. This comparison test however pits the Stinger AWD (standard RWD) against the A5 Sportback AWD and the BMW 430i xDrive (standard RWD). The Stinger was developed specifically with those two Germans in it's sights. So apples to apples it makes sense despite the price difference.
