shorter and narrower than grand cherokee hardly makes it a 'commander'
According to the article Hoovey posted, the length is two inches longer, not shorter, than the JGC. However, that is combined with a wheelbase that is four inches shorter. And, yes, as you state, it's two inches narrower. So, it is obviously not another Chevy Suburban.

Well, it looks like exactly what it is.......a Jeep product. That's not necessarily a good or bad thing......subjective, and whatever one's taste in styling.
