Anyone driven one? This car reminds me the time the 2004 WRX STi came to the U.S and how excited I was to get it. Nobody knew what it was, and when they saw your taillights disappear, you just couldn't stop laughing. (Especially those guys in big lifted pickup trucks who would ask me about 2 miles down the road what just hit them)
So I'm not getting rid of my IS-F but I'm really considering this car as a daily driver. The interior seems to be put together very well, the seats resemble RECARO (but are made by Honda from what I saw on the reviews), you get a 2.0L inline 4 with a turbo and 295 lbs-ft torque curve that peaks at 2500 RPM's, 308 horsepower to play around and a 6 speed. Did I mention the curb weight of 3117 lbs? Gosh this is lighter than my 2004 STi, which was 3263 lbs (yes, I still have the brochure)
Decent ride quality and 20" wheels. It comes fully loaded with NAV and a host of other features standard, there isn't much you can add.
Honda also put some work into the front wheel drive system to eliminate most of the torque steer. 0.99g on the skidpad.
If 306 bhp is not enough for you, you can pickup a Mishimoto CAI (watch their video, it's dynoed and proven) and add another 16 horsepower and 20 lbs-ft to the party. If that's still not good, send your ECU to Hondata to be jail-broken and re-flashed for close to $1000, and gain 47 hp....and 70+ lb-ft torque... ahhha, the fun of making more power with turbo engines.
When you're not in boost, it's 28 MPG on the freeway.
All in all, I feel Honda really nailed it with this car. It looks much better than the Subaru WRX STi (which, Subaru ruined IMO), I don't feel the Focus RS looks that great and I'm hearing their reliability isn't a strong point. Not into German cars either.

Do you have smooth roads in your area? Trust me.....those 20" wheels and rubber-band tires could be an expensive repair the first time you hit a significant pothole.

Yes, our roads are about 9/10 here in the Triangle area. At least where I live.
The car is a Medusa. Every time I see one, I'm afraid I will be turned to stone lol.
But if you like the look, go for it. From all the reviews I've read people say its best handling FWD car they've ever driven. And its fast, which is unheard of for a factory tuner Honda in the US.

There's no denying the performance and handling Honda has managed to produce from the Type R. That said I agree, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yikes! lol
A shadow of it's former self. The stock, fixed up Civics of the 80's and early 90's had class, maturity, and stealthiness. This looks like it's made for a child, designed by a child. Sad for Honda, who is clearly selling it's soul to make a flaky buck. Much respect lost.

Agreed, but this is the first time Honda has actually sold their top of the line Civic in the US. Its a shame it couldn't look sleek and stealthy like some of those older performance Hondas, even if we didn't get the top spec engine in the US.
it's certainly a triumph of engineering, but WAY too much going on stylistically for me... and you only even posted the FRONT 3/4 view, the back goes even crazier
just at first glance i can see themes from an evo, and sti, and even a 458 with those exhaust tips
edit:
P.S. rear visibility looks really bad

Guess we are all different. I think the 80's and 90's Civics looked too simple............but again, that's a matter of taste.
I think it looks cool and even the new Civic looks best in class. What’s ugly? The corolla!
but I’m way passed the age to drive this car (37 now lol), so I can only admire it on the road
At the MSRP of approximately $35k, it's a good value for the performance, even though it's been severely beaten with the ugly stick. At the actual selling price of $45k (used are going for $39-40k in my area), there are a whole bunch of better options.
