2018 Mercedes E class?

I've driven a few E Classes. They're nice cars, my qualms are with 4cyl engines (a qualm which is solved by getting the new E400), and styling. Try as I might, I just don't like the look of this car. It looks droopy in the rear, it looks short, and it looks plain and cheap unless they are really highly optioned. The C Class suffers from the same problems in certain trims.
Mercedes has a problem with terrible wheels on their base cars that really make them look cheap, even on the S Class. Its amazing what a set of wheels does for the look of the S Class.
The E Class drives great, very refined, all what you would expect.
IMHO the 5 Series would be the winner for me in this class just because IMHO its a much more attractive car.

If you like the looks then its a great car.
Personally the exterior styling is very bad and I cant tell it apart from Cclass even if they are side by side from the rear.
I would wait for the CLS53.

I daily a newer GS and weekend a C63 and once I had several things fixed under warranty through my local dealer. Mercedes loaned me a 2017 E300 for about 20 days (parts took a while coming in from Germany) and I was quite impressed. Only con was the noisy raspy inline 4 cylinder which sounded too annoying for any Mercedes-Benz product. My favorite feature was the 2 large 12.3” screens and the ride was sublime. The LED headlights are very bright at night and the ambient lighting is best in class. Obviously your looking at the E400 so engine noise shouldn’t be a problem. I would take it over the A6, 540i for sure.

It's have enough power to compete most of car on the road, it's also very comfortable especial on the rough road or small bumper.
I've owned this E400 for one year, zero issue.
I've owned three Mecedes (2 E, 1 ML) , they are all very reliable.
I think the only concern you should have is the maintenance cost, 1. the oil change is much more expensive than Lexus, Mercedes maintenance plan A will cost you $220 ~ $260, plan B will cost you over $350, so yearly average will be $300 for oil change.
If you run of out warranty, you MUST purchase extended warranty, otherwise, any prepare will cost you arm and leg.
But regarding driving experience and comfort, I'd recommend E400.

E-Class is great all-around as a comfortable luxury sedan. One element that was introduced on the E-Class is the thumb pads on the steering wheel to control both the main gauge cluster and the central COMAND screen. The interface has been re-designed and layered to use with the thumb pad swipes and presses. I think it's one of the better systems in the luxury sector right now. It's not a touch screen, but very intuitive and quick to use, and your hands don't need to leave the wheel.
