Apple CarPlay finally coming to Toyota!! (2019 Avalon)

they all actually use same suppliers for infotainment systems.... are we talking about Android Auto and CarPlay only or? I mean for instance Harman and Blackberry supplied current European Entrune for Toyota... they do the same for most other manufacturers.

toyota' rationale on not having AA now: safety??!!
Toyota held back from having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto infotainment in its cars. But the 2019 Avalon will have CarPlay. What changed?
Everyone wants to control the center stack of the car. When you look at who’s responsible for the safety of the center stack, it’s on the OEM. So we need to control it. Apple understands that need. Not everyone does.

they just did. But I dont think your problem is with suppliers, it is just decision from the managment not to include Android Auto for instance or CarPlay.
When it comes to Entune, it is constantly rated as a good system from CNET that reviews in-car entertainment systems.
So basically IMHO, problem is not the underlaying technology but the decision of the managment. For instance European Entune has very poor graphics for radio, that looks like product is from 90's with huge letters, I assume for senioButrs to see it better. Perplexing use for large screen.
In the end, with Alexa and CarPlay, they are not late anymore, they are here. Alexa will actually be able to control everything that regular system can - so nav, music, heating/climate, etc... this is first Alexa implementation of that system and will likely be more compatible than Android Auto currently is. Will be certainly interesting.

but even if they did support Enform 2.0 for the 2017/2018 model RX's, the screen is not touch screen. so that right there is what car play is about. best thing is to have perhaps 2019 RX with touch screen and carplay. hopefully the screens can be swapped into the 17/18 models.
"CarPlay will show up in additional 2019 cars from Toyota and Lexus that run the company’s Entune 3.0 (for Toyota) and Enform 2.0 (for Lexus) infotainment platforms as well. It has yet to clarify whether or not 2018 models already running those platforms will get support through a software update."

They won't make the RX display a touchscreen, even with CarPlay. It's mounted too far from the driver to be easily reached.

never thought about the touch screen aspect, is that a requirement for the car's screen in order to do AA/AC?

Apple Carplay is an overlay/front end. Initially I heard Apply Carplay had a set of requirements in regards to screens, but seeing how Mercedes and Audi launched it without a touchsreen and simply a remote touch pad, I think Lexus, shall it have the motivation and hardware capabilities in side of the RX, should be an easy thing to do. You just have to access it via remote touch on an app selection screen.
