2019 Ford Ranger
#76
Well, the Ranger fans who vehemently protested, back in 2011, when Ford was determined to drop this truck from the American market, are now not only vindicated, but in a position to say four simple words to Ford management............
..........."I TOLD YOU SO".
Hmmmm.......Wonder what else that's going to be the case for in the future?

You're forgetting that eight years ago the Ranger encroached on the F-150 which was around $23,500

Ranger fans, though, don't seem to care....they seem attracted to the nameplate. There'a a reason why they are going the door as fast as they come in.
You work at a Ford shop yourself, don't you? I'm sure you see it every day.

I doubt they will. Ford seems to be pretty committed to the single drivetrain option for this vehicle. At most we'll see a V6 EB in a potential Raptor down the road.
And I don't think the V6 diesel from the F-150 will fit. Or the I5 from the Transit.
Besides, these newer diesels are actually pretty clean(unless the automaker is cheating *cough*VW*cough*RAM*cough).

Diesel is dead in the u.s. except for specialized use (huge towing usually).

Modern diesel's burn cleaner than gasoline engines.
I disagree, but to stay on topic, this ranger already has a diesel in the UK and other markets. In fact, this "new ranger" is actually not new at all. They have had them all over the world. Ford never stopped selling the "ranger" in other markets. It wouldn't surprise me if they brought the eurodiesel over. In fact, I think it would be a phenomenally smart move.

I'm with Josh. I see little or no reason not to have truck-diesels just because Ferdinand Peich, over at VW/Audi, strong-armed some of his engineers and subordinates into subverting ethic standards in the design of their own diesels. How he's managed to avoid prosecution, so far, when some of his subordinates have been criminally-charged beats me .....he was the one behind it all.

If the urea-solutions are added correctly (and the engine is designed correctly) then most of the diesel-emissions are well-controlled. Most of the larger Bluetec diesels require the urea-solution.....not all of the smaller VW TDI ones, although we know that at least some of the VW diesels were cheating.

The 3.0-liter’s Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) emissions system uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) housed in a tank that will last about 10,000 miles per fill-up.

We finally got the opportunity to sit in a new Ranger. No idea the sticker. My gosh black on black is serverly depressing. Lots of super cheap, crappy plastics. Leather was ok at best but felt durable, which I guess is good. Compared, the Tacoma has far better materials by spades.
Where the Ranger completely excels at is that is a better designed truck. It’s far roomier. Deeper cargo bed. Just better designed overall. Infotainment system is better as well.
Its amazing what competition does. The Tacoma finally gets a height adjustment for its drivers seat. It finally gets Apple Car Play and Android as well. And it’s amazing how the Toyota trucks still use a c frame where the competition and this new Ranger gets a fully boxed.
What I find ironic is that the American company Ford brings an overseas design stateside while the Japanese company Toyota offers a designed for the USA only.
Grade: Ranger C+. Boring as hell, cheaper materials, but a better truck. Whereas the Tacoma is far more interesting and has better interior materials.

Yes, Ithink I already said the GM models were the best. Tacoma still has the best materials.

This is something that's bothered me for a while.....what the hell is wrong with hard surfaces in a truck? I prefer hard surfaces(except the seat, I like some seat comfort) because they're easier to clean. When you have a truck this means everything. This soft-touch materials craze is overboard. In a luxury automobile? yes, i get it. In a Platinum/Limited/Laramie etc truck? Ok, fine, for the price you pay it should be luxurious. But for a lower-mid range trim pickup, i'd rather have rugged than soft and plush everywhere. I guess since I don't buy luxury trucks, I don't care much about the luxury features(which is why I don't jump for a RAM over an F-150). I'm probably closer to MMarshall on this regard. Give me a functioning vehicle with the basic necessities(plus I'll take a few goodies) and I'm a happy camper. Eventually when I'm rolling in the 6 figure salaries as a partner, I might pick up a luxury car on the side(maybe an Aviator at that point).
