Default Car Cover - Any Ideas

Hey guys, looking for some ideas and opinions, I have a black GS and don't have a garage. I bought a car cover probably back in 2008 when I had my 3GS, used it every so often after washes, I want to start using again on my 4GS, it's just a pain to put it on and off every morning and night, any ideas besides building a garage or a new technology easy to use cover...just looking for some ideas..

Well there's no car cover that will put itself on and off the car, what exactly are your expectations?

Car covers are going to swirl and scratch the hell out of your soft paint black GS. Unless you have two people put it on perfectly on a car that is completely clean and just washed.

The paint is that bad? My ES has a car cover sometimes for 2 months no issues at all, no scratches.

Aren't there soft car covers now that won't scratch the paint by now? I have not really looked into them but I will get one for the next car I get.

Black and dark blue Lexus paint.... yes.

Your silver ES (I have an 01 ES300 Coach in same color)...you can wash it with a brillow pad and sandpaper and it will still look fine from 5 feet away. Very different paint.

so maybe better then to just get a light duster to dust every morning instead of car cover? I guess the car cover I have fits tight so u really need two people, is there anyone out there that really puts one on and off each day?

That is the worst thing you can do to a black car. Perhaps look into buying a silver or a white car next time?

the cover itself ideally won't scratch the car, but it will drag around the dirt already on your paint, and that's what scratches your car.

Bottom line, any car parked outside is super high maintenance.... Dirt, excessive sun damage. Your car just turns to s*** faster outside. Believe me, I've had my cars outside 24/7 since new, and now the paint is flaking off on my 03 ES and 07 GS

Consider a car tent, but you'll need to anchor it down with concrete weights, and spray 303 aerospace protectant to reduce sun damage... https://www.google.com/search?q=car+tent

This will help take care of any scratches that you DO get, as long as they aren't very deep into the clearcoat.

I'd avoid any car cover or dusters. They all scratch the surface. Waxing your car every few months should enhance longterm protection and make weekly washes much more effective.

The butler can do this, you may need to show him a few times before he gets it right, though.

Someone on this forum posted this link before

yeah I totally agree, s**** not having garage space. I bought my 2006 Lexus and it was originally from FLA and it was likely garaged by some rich guy, now it's outside 24/7.....

this makes sense, maybe I will just go this route, wax more often instead of spending time daily with cover.
