that GS interior is gorgeous; stands out and for the long run I'd do the GS as well. Nothing against the E class, I believe MB has made significant strides but fast forward 5 years and 60k miles later, you'll either have a GS with 105k miles or an E class with 90k miles....which one would you think would be easier to sell/have a higher trade?
Outside of finances, I find the E class ride smoother (but the GS wasn't meant to drive like a luxobarge) so depends on what your personal tastes lean towards. I'd almost go as far as recommend you bypass a 5year/60k mile coverage for the GS, save some $$.

Because as a general rule Lexus cars are built to last over the long term, I feel like German cars are built to the standard of being dead nuts reliable until 50-60k miles, once your warranty expires. Then you go trade it in on a new Benz, BMW, etc. I however feel like Benz and Audi are a BIG cut above BMW in terms of reliability and durability. BMW makes contemptible junk IMO, worse than Nissan, worse than Fiat/Chrysler, hell I'd rate BMW at the very bottom of the list in terms of cost of ownership and reliability for cars in that 4 to 10 year old age bracket.

Realistically when I go to MB/BMW (and even Audi) forums, the gripes/issues that owners raise on their vehicles, ranging from electronic gremlins to catastrophic mechanical implosions, it scares me. I certainly understand most people come to the internet to gripe, but if you look at the GS forum (or ES...LS...) you read about people exchanging tips on detailing, maintenance cost comparison, the occasional interior quality/trim issues, ancient infotainment.....and the occasional check engine light.
There is a reason L Certified vehicles come with a (from in-service date) 6 year unlimited miles CPO warranty whereas MB only comes with 1 year unlimited miles.
I'm not saying Lexus is perfect; there have been occasional mechanical issues but the ownership experience of owning a Lexus far supercedes the questionable reliability of some of the luxury German counterparts like the E-class.
