Default Camaro ZL1's exhaust system is so loud, the airbags blow

In the beginning and at 9:50. Towards the end when the owner gets the car to the shop, they believe the airbag sensor placement is close enough to the exhaust that it tripped the canopy airbags. Straight pipes are crazy!

That's hilarious....

You get pulled over for a loud exhaust real quick around here. Happened to me twice in my friend's stock SC300 with a 3" straight pipe. 1st time was just hours of getting it installed and on another occasion a few weeks later.

Sets off the alarms very easily it's so stupid loud. To be honest it was cool for about an hour and then it was just obnoxious.

why?

the side airbags are for side impact, they have separate sensors than the front and knee airbags which are designed for frontal impact.

the side sensors are in the "B" pillars, toward the bottom behind the seat belt anchor points, the vibration from the exhaust probably moved them enough to trip the computer. the front sensors are in the front of the car no where near the exhaust system.

Camaros are known for this, as are chargers, there are several videos on youtube of the side curtains blowing on both models from drifting, doing donuts, and from hard auto cross cornering.

When I put a 4' to 5' straight pipe with no cat in my 1JZ GTE swapped SC300, the noise was so crazy it sounds like a race car, the noise can actually massage my butt since it's too loud! I drove it around for 30 mins and put the silencer on whenever I take it on the street.

anyway, fun video and the guy has a color matching sun glasses really cracked my up!

Yeah I used to be all about that obnoxious noise, had a 1999 Camaro Z28/automatic with no muffler, stock cat converter quieted down a bit, but still sounded great!!! Actually it wasn't that loud just cruising around if you kept the revs below 2000rpm or so. The LS1 V8 was such a great motor, it was happy to just put around town and shift around 1800-2200rpm, kept up with traffic. Tons of low end torque, but man that engine just sang once the tach crossed 3000rpm, it pulled hard to 6000rpm. It was fast from a damn stop, but that 60 to 140mph pull just killed most other street cars, that thing was just brutal on the highway.

Still, now days, I've kept my SC300 with the stock exhaust. Figured it wasn't fast, it might sound cool without the mufflers, but hell, its a luxury car, its supposed to be quiet.

I love my ram's muffler delete. Of course my setup is a far far cry from what he has done, which is effectively ruin his car.

My truck:

From inside the cab:

Its pretty loud if you are outside and I pass by under load or at WOT, but quiet when cruising. On the highway unless you get on it its only marginally louder than stock. I have only removed the muffler for a straight through y pipe in place of it. The factory cats and resonators are still on the truck. It will set off car alarms, or make people jump if i start it with the remote start from a distance in the parking lot as they walk past it.
