Ordered my new car (2018 Buick Lacrosse)

I don't think you will see incentives like this for 2018 models. GM will cut production and rework the options to sell better. The discount is too good to be true. I would at least call them ASAP.

Either way, folks, I won't go deep into my personal finances on public forum, but, rest-assured............I've been saving my whole life, and my nest egg is quite ample for my needs. A new Lacrosse is a drop in the bucket, budget-wise, for me. If I wanted to, I could pay cash for a six-figure car....I simply choose not to do that, as I keep most of the money for an unseen emergency. Still, I negotiate the best figure I can.....unless it's a no-haggle deal.
But, after many years of driving less car than I can afford (and saving money) I feel, upon retirement, it's time to treat myself just once, especially with something I've wanted since college, and didn't do because of GM's poor quality. OK, maybe the Lexus IS300 I had was a nice car (it was)...but it was more of a sport sedan than a nice luxo-cruiser.

How much money you have and whether you can afford it is beyond the point, whether you can afford to buy something or not, you are paying considerably more here for this particular car than you have to.
Buying the same car just paying more for it than you have to isn't "treating yourself".

Your logic doesn't make sense. You won't get 16% off of a 2018 special order, they're still going to have 2017s to move.
If you're content paying more to get a 2018 that's fine, but own that, don't try and pretend you're not going to pay significantly more, because you are.

But I'm not in a position to buy a vehicle right now because of the lease on my Sedona, you are in a position to buy and the car you want is right in front of you. Jill is right, this is an opportunity to get a great deal on the car that you want vs an uncertain situation with a 2018 future car that we are reasonably certain won't be buyable at as good a deal until well into its model year.
If I were in a position to buy and waiting on a 2018 Pacifica vs a 2017 now at a great discount with everything I wanted, that would be the same situation.

Preferred is essentially the Base model with satellite radio (a must for me), more exterior paint colors available, a power-tilt/telescope steering column, a cargo net, and better-finished aluminum wheels.....generally (but not exactly) what I was looking for. The Premium is the High-Zoot version.....a number of safety and convienence-items are standard on it that are not available lesser models, and it is the only version available with AWD. The Essence (which is more than I need) is in between the Preferred and Premium.

A bird in the hand.......Given the choice of something like $5k right now or maybe some type of discount in the future it might be a better choice (for some) to take the sure thing.

Yes. Totally agree. For a new design and first model year, I doubt the car will ever been this discounted going forward.
