I'm not sure you could really call them independents...these four were quite dependent on other automakers. DeLorean, for example, used a V6 of Peugeot/Renault/Volvo design, Checker used old Chevy "Stovebolt" in-like 6-cylinders, Panoz used Ford V8s taken out of high-performance Mustangs, and AMC wound up owning Jeep, selling that division off to Chrysler, and eventually being sold off itself to Renault before folding.

On the subject of AMC, I'll post something that is maybe a little off-topic, but perhaps interesting for those who don't know.....Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's late father George, who was also Governor of Michigan at one point, ran the old AMC in the 50s and 60s as its CEO. AMC was the product of the Hudson/Nash merger in 1954.

The Model 3 is almost here. I saw one a few weeks back with test plates in western China. I saw the latest Panamera also on test plates near the same spot, months before the official launch.

What's with the Tesla hate on this forum? Are people so scared they're going to lose their V8s? Electrification is the future, deal with it.
