I ask as this was a 4 lane urban road which has shops/stores on either side of which people do cross to shop. I'm not discussing whether their crossing is legal/illegal, within a crosswalk, etc., but whether these vehicles and/or drivers would be able to stop in time or at least avoid hitting someone. As these vehicles become more common I can see where this could become an issue.
You can't realistically drive to a cars ability in a city. Even a V6 Camry can't really be driven there due to too many factors to account for....

It also depends on the driver and skill level/practice as to if they can process fast enough or plan ahead for possible factors. I can't account for more than about 15 so I don't drive aggressively at all in cities. Even normal or under speed driving always makes me nervous there since people tend to run lights or move unexpectedly and I usually like to let others go first at a light so they can take a hit. It actually did make a difference once.

Now interstate or highways/backroads are another story.......the on ramp from high street onto 270 northbound in Columbus still has 4 burn marks from me launching my A8 from the turn lane onto the ramp. Got up to 147 when I merged then passed everything in my way till just past riverside.

Your reaction time doesn't change, you get into a trance if you are just commuting on the same route. Reaction time is faster when you have adrenaline going but at higher speed you have less relative distance to make changes/decisions in vs when moving slower.

You can have the same amount of time pulling out of a subdivision into a 55 as making a pass or lane change at 130. The time you have to not exceed to avoid hitting/getting hit by something is the same, the distances are the difference. The other factor is how the vehicle behaves at those loads, some cars can do it others can't. Don't exceed what it can actually do.

People tend to get in trouble when they don't really know what their can can do and then push too hard. Track it a few times to really know what it can and can't do is my advice to anyone even if it's a simple car. Better to know than not.

You can't just look at one class of car or one dimension of performance in isolation as extreme acceleration is not necessarily any more of a risk than high mass, poor brake performance, lack of agility and so on. It really does all boil down to not driving like an idiot.
Yep. High mass is scary to drive. I feel far more uncomfortable driving 30k weight combos than doing 150+ in a supercar.

How did you get your IS to 5 seconds? That's a good bit faster than stock
He actually now has a built block from Two Step Performance, but as he built up the power, other components started to fail, first his 4th gear (which obliterated the rest of the transmission), and recently after pushing to 38 psi the head bolts snapped. I think he's planning to move on to the Acura Integra S if they offer the 2.0T in 2022.

As far as my IS350, engine is 100 percent stock except for an F-Sport intake. Although the 2nd Gen has less power then the 3rd Gen (306 vs 311), it's lighter and has more aggressive gearing then both the 3rd and 4th gen. Checkout the link below in my signature where I do a 0 to 60 run

Yeah at that PSI he is nearing platform limit, poor trans lol!

That's badass, I'm in talks with RR racing for something related to the 460 right now. I'm not going to mention what it is quite yet but it should be quite interesting if it pans out. Can't have you IS guys beating us LS drivers now can I lol!

A lot of people underestimate the 2nd gen IS350, including drivers of BMW, Audi, VW, Subaru (WRX), Hyundai (Veloster N), Infiniti (G35 and G37) and some others. I know she's not the fastest, but she's wiped the grin off a few faces...

They allow people to sit in it, but you have to make an appointment. After talking to the manager for a while about it and what I drive now and how I had just looked at an EQS, he let me sit in it. All in all I spent about 30 minutes with the car. Here's a picure:

All in all, I gotta say I was really wowed by the car. This is the first EV I have sat in that I really felt something for, the first one I could see myself wanting. The proportions of the car in person are great, its long but not ungainly looking like the EQS, the shape is much more natural and flowing and on top of that it has the same coefficient of drag .20. Fit and finish was excellent, all the trim is high quality and the lighting is unique and beautiful. Its different, yet not different for the sake of being different.Really like the looks of the car. The clamshell trunk opening is kind of odd.

Inside the positives continue. Quality is A+, no cheap plastic anywhere, everything is super high quality and covered in real stitched materials, alcantara, leather, metal or wood. None of the cheapness I found in thr EQS. You really get the feeling like you're sitting in the future. The dash layout and positioning is perfect, ergonomics are all top notch. Steering wheel is nice and thick and falls right to hand. Just the right combinaton of hard buttons and virtual displays. Everything feels super high quality and substantial. Seat quality was great, nappa leather was great. Seat massage is as good or better than whats in my S560, also massages the seat bottom which mine doesn't do. Ambient lighting is nice although not to MB level nice. Love the windshield that comes up over the front passenger's heads. Interior room was better than the EQS IMO and more what someone used to a flagship sedan would be accustomed to. The interior felt like a good mix of Audi, Porsche and Tesla are the best examples. Rear seat comfort is excellent and I didnt feel that sitting up on the battery feel I have felt in other EVs. Visibility is very good.

Range is 520 miles which is incredible, and on a fast charger they say 300 miles in about 20 min. I would charge at home, and 520 miles of range even if I only got 400 miles that would get me anywhere I would travel with the car without having to charge. 80% charge is about 430 miles.

From what I was told, there is a large Lucid service center being built in Tysons, and they will be doing valet service all around the area but the car doesn't need much maintenance. Mercedes plans on scheduled maintenance stops every 20k on the EQS. Orders for the Dream edition are closed, and those deliveries have started, and production on Grand Touring and lower trims should start Q3 2022.

I'm seriously considering ordering one...it could conceivably take 18 months...
Thanks for the detailed review!! I'm not surprised by most of your review based on my limited exposure via review videos.

Other than the exterior design (which could very well change once I see it in person) I really like every thing else about the car. I hope they succeed in the market in the years to come!

I'm a bit surprised/disappointed regarding your feedback on the EQS quality. Interesting no doubt.

This is indeed an exciting time for EVs.

That's not saying much. A lot of people feel this way. I like Teslas minimalism. I really like the way the Plaid is laid out quality issues aside.

yeah i've met people like EZZ who love the tesla's extreme minimalism. i think it just looks plain. i think they could have the same minimalism with nicer interior designs/materials.

i don't like the lucid interior either.

That awkward-looking steering wheel also reminds me of what Oldsmobile was using back in the mid-late 1980s.

I personally like the steering wheel, and at least its not a yoke.

2 spoke steering wheels like that are becoming somewhat common, look at new Genesis models for instance

I like this car. And I also do not like this car. The dark colours hide the hideous line in the truck area that sticks out in the white colours. The overall shape looks good. Front end is not great IMO. I like the way the roof glass looks from the inside looking up. The floating sun visors look cool. Dash reminds of the Escalade as well as the Taycan. Not a huge fan of all digital stuff, but this thing looks good for the next generation

You mean the weird clamshell way the trunk opens and that line?
