why would anyone buy this over the mercedes eqs?

lcid stock has been crushed lately.

why would $10 be a magic price point? Could go to $1.

 

The stock is down but I think l it will go back up. It’s getting crushed at the minute mostly because a lock up period for early pre IPO investors was approaching. That expired and they could sell from yesterday. Flush those out and chances are it will recover. There’s also an event at the end of this month that could see an upswing.

It’s a big gamble at this point TSLA didn’t breakout for a few yrs and Elon has lots of cult following. Lucid CEO is not household name.

Tesla also used the crazy 0-60 launches and self driving feature to generate a lot of buzz when Model S first came out. Then the Model X had the amazing falcon doors.

Besides being an EV, Tesla did stuff that ppl never saw before in a car which created amazing momentum for them. And even with all that they still had many hiccups where they almost didn’t make it.

I haven’t seen anything on this Lucid to captivate the luxury buyer that you can’t get at another more established brand.

 

Its appeal is supposed to be Tesla with luxury, in other words combining the strength of Tesla and traditional luxury automakers. That is, the superior range, self-driving, tech in general of Tesla combined with traditional luxury like high end materials and finish.

There needs to be a distinguishing feature to the car, and for Lucid it was supposed to be the all glass top (thus giving it the "Airy" feel) which can be turned opaque. Not sure if they managed to accomplish that on the production model.

indeed. There is world of difference between what EQS has on EV technology side vs what Model S has or what Lucid is going to put into production.

Once you buy EV, these things matter. They only dont matter when you are really not interested but efficiency and power/speed matter greatly to EV owners, hence Tesla selling so well despite many shortcomings when comparing them to traditional premium manufacturers

 

Tesla is killing the NA market because there's next to zero competition from premium manufacturers. Chevy, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Ford and VW are not what most buyers would equate with "Premium" brands.

Look what happened to S/X sales when Audi and Porsche started having more deliveries towards the end of 2020. The pre-refresh S and X were still faster and more efficient than the e-Tron, weren't they? Europe is another indicator where Tesla's market share has steadily declined when more choices started showing up. Efficiency and Speed numbers appeal to people who buy based on paper specs. Actual premium buyers will look at other factors if the speed and efficiency are 'good enough' and won't leave them stranded.

 

There’s some important nuance and context here though, which is that the overall EV market is growing and Tesla itself continue to grow. Tesla’s business isn’t declining. The rising tide of the growing market is floating all boats.

And “actual premium buyers” are absolutely buying Tesla vehicles. Those same “premium” competitors are available in the US. To imply that Tesla’s business is shrinking and furthermore that its because of Audi and Porsche is incorrect IMO. Tesla itself pushed production to the 3 and Y because the company was focused on hitting Musk’s long- stated sales/delivery target. The S and X are supply constrained, not demand constrained. They are no longer Tesla’s core models, but the number of cars awaiting parts parked in the factory right near here and the current lead time on new orders tell you that demand for these cars remains.

 

Lucid can only dream about the market share Tesla has.
