Default Buying question

Hello, I am brand new to CL and I was hoping you all might be able to offer some advice.

I am in the process of purchasing a new 2016 Lexis ES 350 and want to know if I have negotiated a good deal.

The Numbers:
MSRP: 45,650 + 798 in dealer adds = 46,448
INVOICE: 43,212 before dealer adds
DOC fee: 300
Tax: 399
Title Fee: 39

Discounts:
LEXUS PERFORMANCE CASH: 4,000
DEALER Discount: 3,950

OTD PRICE: 39,236

I am asking because the dealer is out of town. I don't want to drive that far if there are better deals to be had. Seems like a winner to me though.

Thank you

Welcome to CL.

Those numbers look OK to me. I've certainly seen lots worse. A $300 DOC fee isn't bad at all. I've seen dealerships in the D.C. area (Northern Virginia), where I live, charging as much as $600 or $700 for that fee. Maryland, right across the river from us, has a much lower legal limit of on the DOC fee, but a generally higher sales tax than in Virginia.

The "dealer add-on" charge may or may not be questionable, depending on what you will be getting for it. But, even so, you are getting some excellent discounts there from both Lexus and the dealership to compensate, and even if the $798 add-on charge is questionable, the $3950 discount way more than makes up for it....that's still an effective $3150 discount, plus the $4000 Lexus incentive.

One word of caution, though......make sure it really IS a brand-new vehicle, and not simply a demonstrator or something that has more than just a couple of hundred miles on it. Different jurisdictions ave different laws as to just how many miles a brand-new vehicle can legally have on it when it is delivered.

I appreciate the response. I keep thinking I missed something that I am going to catch. Been through the numbers a few times and it seems like a good deal. Just wanted a knowledgeable outside opinion.

I was adding a note of caution, though, just as you responded.....make sure it actually IS a brand-new vehicle, not a demo or something with a fair number of miles on it.

Good Luck.

Yes, definitely. It had 10 miles on it when I test drove it. The 798 was for Nitrogen fill and tinted windows.

Nitro isn't worth that, nor is tint, but like you said, I feel like they compensated me fairly with the discounts.

I know that Delaware has no sales tax--you should move there.

SC and I got the doc fee and Tax mixed up. Tax is capped at 300 on car purchases in SC.

2017's are on their way, if not here already. The 2016's should be massively discounted by the factory and dealer.

yup. I would demand at least 20% off and have the dealer eat the 699 documentation (aka pure profit)
