Skyactiv engine has fat torque curve, and torque matters more for vehicle this size. I've not checked yet, but 2.5L CX-5 is likely lighter than Rogue as well.
Had a 2016 Rouge rental once. It was ok interior-wise, but i would never buy it. Its CVT gearbox was a complete garbage. Luckly i had that car for only a day.
