Default Lamborghini crash in Toronto

Richie Rich was doing the improbable... testing a Lamborghini's winter limits in snowy weather on a Toronto freeway and of course crashed it.

But not to be deterred good citizens... you can do this: the Lamborghini driver had backup.... in the form of a BMW that "suddenly" showed up and whisked the Lambo's operator away in a hurry... Toronto police now looking for both of these folks.

A CBC photographer got pics of the gruesome remains.

I thought that I heard that the Lambo rear-ended a Corolla but video I saw showed a Nissan Juke. I must have been half-asleep when I heard it this morning.

It didn't start snowing until tonight, last night was well above freezing. This was clearly driver error and high rate of speed related, not winter weather.

So the driver ran away from the accident scene? He really thought he could get by with it?! He's just making it worse...

Not necessarily. Instead of being arrested on the spot, he can go into hiding and mommy and daddy will pay lawyers to claim the car was stolen or some other nonsense. Probably another case of "affluenza".

Heck of a price to pay though, abandoning your expensive Italian sports car after smashing it up. And the police don't have too much sleuthing to do now. How many people drive or own that kind of car, even in a large city like Toronto.

Well true, I guess if he was drunk then he better off get away to avoid a DUI ticket and more serious penalty. But running away from accident is so low though :/

Lot's of rich kids and "consulate" plated cars here, so it doesn't surprise me one bit. They'll trace the car to a numbered company or a consulate, no records of who was driving it that night. It's possible the BMW was the security detail that cleaned up after the mess. The insurance companies will pay up and no one is the wiser for it. Good thing there was no injuries or even worse.

Yeah that happens in major cities more than we know. But with insurance it's going to be complicated. No insurance adjuster worth their salt is going to take a quarter of a million dollar hit plus other associated costs regardless of who their client is.

Especially when it's clear the driver fled the scene. The only other option is the owner/lessee will have to take the hit literally. No insurance claim and either reclaim the wreck or forgo that and lose it all.

Criminally, the police already have probable cause to hold the car, fingerprint it and follow up with the registered owner or company. They'll find out where this car belongs depending on far they want to go.

If it's a consular plate, then Canada's foreign affairs department will get involved and that's going to be a political problem with relations with a foreign country. No doubt though, it's happened in the States with Saudi types who actually remove their cars and leave the country in a hurry.

The BMW may have been either a rescue detail, or the other rich kid/buddy who was racing with the Lambo's driver.

I honestly wish you guys were right. But too many people, too often, DO get away with stuff like this, and we all end up paying the bills as a result.

The 1% always have special access and privilege. This story will fall off the newswire pretty quickly because luckily, nobody was killed. Everybody walks away as either a winner or a loser... but with life intact.

Sometimes it seems like this does happen too often. But that's merely a media manipulation and crisis style 24/7 reporting.

The vast majority of American and Canadian drivers drop their kids of at school in a minivan, drive to the local coffee shop and generally go for a quick stoplight race, but do no harm. This is a outlier in the big picture... but an interesting sidenote about who was doing what on a certain night in Hogtown.

The car is totalled.

I am not sure how hard it would be to find the person that was driving. The cops have both the license plate and the VIN.

Oh, easy to find the registered owner, quite a bit harder to find the "driver", specially if the car is registered to an entity such as a company or a consulate. From a liability perspective, the entity is liable, and that's where insurance coverage come in or the entity covers the losses. From a charges perspective, without evidence or witness to who was driving, no one to charge and probably plenty of reasonable doubt due how late and dark it would have been.

If you look closer to the picture of the car in the parking lot, you'll find that there no tell tale signs of the typical white with blue writing Ontario plate or even white with red letters dealer plate.

Correction, I imported the picture into an editing app and tried to clean up the contrast, there is a white and blue plate. Just can't make it out

If I ever saw that, I would get two beaters to park right next to it, very close.
