I have read some of the reviews from Car & Driver, Road and Track, MT etc etc. None of the reviews complain about the refinement of the NX.
That's my point. Go test-drive it for yourself. Like many of us on this forum, you're enough of a car enthusiast yourself to be able to judge it on your own.
This is mostly what I am trying to convey, but I guess I am coming off as if the RX is a better car than the NX (Which to me, it is). I just personally dont see a need for the NX platform as I have stated.. Besides market sharing
That might be the case, but the RX is still a bigger and heavier vehicle to live with.
I will agree that the different price points and where they start is what gets the sale done in the majority of cases. But both have their pros and cons and for a different generation of owner.
So, lets agree to disagree then..
like SW15LS has stated in one of his posts on this thread, if the RX were the same exact price as the NX, which would you choose? lets be honest...
Also, The size of the RX is not that intimidating. Something like the LX570 is a different story..
The market for small luxury SUVs is significant, and that market is continuing to grow. Seeing that they're selling 3k+ NX's a month without a corresponding drop in RX sales I would say the evidence as to the demand for that vehicle is clear. It lets them make the RX bigger and more upmarket too.
People said the same thing about the IS too when it came out.
The NX is significantly zippier and more fun to drive than the RX, I can totally see why somebody would buy one.
No doubt the demand is there if those are actual numbers, but I still cant wrap my head around owning something similar (NX). My question to you, would you purchase an NX yourself?
I must make it clear that although it is not for my standards, everyone else is different.
These cars are all marketing schemes it seems...Well played, lexus. Well played..

Would I at this stage of my life? No. Would I have if I were still single or just me and my wife? I might. Plenty of people choose smaller cars over larger cars every day, not everybody wants the biggest car they can get.

LOL, thats all any car is. Its a product offered to meet the demand. Just because it doesn't mean your needs doesn't mean its not worthwhile.

NX doesn't feel anything like the Rav 4...and you've clearly never driven a car with this turbo I4 lol, the engine is nothing special at all. Its underpowered, smooth but not nearly as refined as the V6.
Why not have two million dollars in your pocket instead of one million dollars? Lexus is going for the gusto, as any business who has the mean to do so, does. This add-on will keep RX sales spiking during this generation's run. Wise.
I'm just a bit surprised they aren't bringing out an entire new vehicle to fulfill the 3rd row duty. I think it would have enhanced their portfolio more and led to even more overall sales. I'm roughly reminded of the 1990 Chevy S-10 Blazer and GMC Jimmy's morph into a 4-door SUV. Rather than adding an all new model (Tahoe/Yukon), they just made an existing unit longer.
That is the whole point of the NX. The NX will slowly grow a bit longer, and fill the RX shoes, while RX gets even bigger and longer with a 3rd row option.

Yes, in general, the RAV-4 is not only more of a bread-and-butter product, but is also significantly less sport-oriented. The NX is anything BUT your traditional cushy, quiet Lexus....the new RX has much more traditional Lexus road manners, despite the radical new shape.

Since we are on the subject.. If you do not "need" a "big fat RX", why not get an is, or gs? You claim you wanted a smaller car, and somewhat sportier car, Something with better handling. If that is your criteria, you are looking at the wrong type of vehicle.
Had 2 IS's. Don't want anything larger like the GS (besides, from your theory GS is just a wanna be LS). I wanna hatcH, I have one in the WRX...but sits a bit low for me (being in the latest Denver blizzard).

And personally speaking, I think the IS is perfect size. I test drove the IS with the new I4, I liked it better than the 2.5 that my sister had in her IS.
The NX is a noisy little bugger. Could benefit greatly from some more insulation come refresh time
By Lexus standards, I agree. I've got a 25K Verano that is a model for wind and road-noise insulation in a smaller vehicle, though you do hear some engine noise.

Agreed. Drove a rental in SFO last Sept and that thing was quiet even when pulling 4 adults up a hill. Buick did a good job.
