No need to look at Lexus sales with special glasses, they are doing pretty darn good.

The declines in small and midsize car sales finally caught up to both Toyota and Honda in August.
Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. reported its August sales fell 8.8 percent from a year earlier to 224,381 vehicles, while American Honda Motor Co.’s sales dropped 6.9 percent to 155,491. Both companies suffered big declines in cars that negated increases in some light trucks.
Toyota and Scion brand sales combined slid 11 percent to 190,894, while Lexus sales gained 2.1 percent to 33,487.
The Toyota Camry, Prius, Avalon and all Scion models sustained sales declines of 14 percent or more. Corolla sales fell 4.1 percent. The lone Toyota-brand car with an increase was the Yaris -- up 64 percent, to 858 cars.
Scion is launching two new models, but it remains in free fall. August marked the 27th month in a row that its sales fell on a year-on-year basis.
Toyota brand’s light-truck sales, a strength for most of the year, declined 4.9percent as Tundra pickup sales fell 15 percent and RAV4 crossover sales dropped 14 percent, offsetting higher sales of the Tacoma pickup and Highlander SUV.
At Lexus, the main driver behind August’s sales gain was the new NX small crossover, with 4,448 units sold. Sales of its top-seller, the RX, fell 19 percent as dealers await the arrival of a redesigned 2016 RX.
American Honda’s sales showed similar trends, except that its luxury brand, Acura, suffered a setback. The automaker can take consolation in that August was still its 6th best month ever in the U.S. market and was its best month this year.
In August, the Honda brand sold 140,178 vehicles, down 7.5 percent from a year earlier. Accord sales fell 20 percent; Civic sales, 5.9 percent; and Fit sales, 52 percent. A redesigned Pilot SUV is on the way, but 2016 versions haven’t arrived in enough volume yet to drive that model’s sales, which fell 5.6 percent last month.
Sales of the CR-V edged up 2 percent, and the new HR-V small crossover had another solid month, with sales of 4,567 units. Odyssey sales were up 7.5 percent.

RC seem to be cannibalizing some of IS and GS sales, but when combined it's all up. NX seem to carry the day for SUV, but again, when you combine RX and NX it's all up. If sales totals are up something is selling.

When you think about the hottest cars around, large luxury SUVs might not be the 1st to come to mind, but competitors from BMW and Mercedes-Benz were 2 of the fastest-selling vehicles in August. BMW's venerable X5 sold in just 7 days while it took the redesigned — and renamed — Mercedes-Benz GLE350 8 days to sell.
Perhaps having the two competitors atop the list is a surprise, but it shouldn't be. In August 2014, the 2015 BMW X5 was the fastest-selling car and the Mercedes-Benz ML350, which the GLE350 replaces, was also on the fastest-selling list.
2016-model-year versions of mass-market cars — namely the Toyota Camry and Corolla along with the Subaru Legacy and Outback — also took little time to sell. Redesigned cars like the Hyundai Tucson and Mazda MX-5 Miata also sold briskly. But 15 out of the 20 fastest-sellers weren't redesigned.
Most of August's slowest sellers don't have redesigns coming, so the fact that they're languishing on dealer lots is not good news. The 4-door version of the Toyota Yaris took 163 days to sell in August, which was considerably longer than the average time-to-sell rate of 63 days for all cars in August.
That average is significantly lower than August 2014's 69 days and its below July 2015's 64 days. That might mean that while overall sales numbers were down slightly last month, the cars themselves were selling faster.
If you're looking for a bargain, we found several cars that dealers might want to make a deal on, from the thrifty Mitsubishi Mirage to the audacious Dodge SRT Viper.

The Fastest- and Slowest-Selling Cars list reports the average number of days it takes to sell models from the day they arrive on the lot until the final paperwork is signed by a buyer. This is not a days-of-inventory list like you may find on other websites. With lots mostly clear of 2014 models, we look exclusively at 2015s and 2016s. For the fastest sellers, we only list vehicles that pass a certain threshold of sales in order to weed out limited editions, ultra-high-performance cars and others that might skew the numbers or otherwise inaccurately portray popularity. To highlight all slow sellers, slowest sellers have no such threshold.
Our Picks highlight cars that take a significant time before they're sold and might be overlooked by shoppers. Dealers could be more motivated to sell these cars.

i've never considered that apples to apples comparison, but ok...
maybe it's the cars that are disappointing the most. even with the rc, they were down 4.6% compared to last year (probably 20% down without the rc). the trucks (suvs) on the other hand were up almost 20% with the nx which as i say, made the numbers overall look good. but you can't convince me that non-suv sales are "pretty darn good".

Hence if you find Lexus sales disappointing, then BMW and MB sales are even more so.

I find it quite interesting that Toyota still cant produce enough Camry's and Corollas. This is supposed to be SUV market right now, so SUVs are hot.

I don't find the measurement of "days sitting on the lot before sale" meaningful anymore. In too many cases it just means that a brand has leaner inventory management than others and vice versa, and Toyota/Lexus, of all brands, are especially notoriously known for keep inventory extremely lean, to the point that potential buyers are often frustrated at not being able to find the color/trim level combinations they want.

Most of these cars are in demand, for instance Highlander - Toyota just announced addition of 200 extra employees to start their first Saturday shift for Highlander production.

so i feel that comparing total numbers for brands as different as mercedes and lexus is not meaningful. mercedes and bmw have quite similar product lines though.
but if you feel happy that lexus outsells bmw or mercedes, good for you.

Omission of 300h across RWD lineup in US really baffles me. They would not sell in huge numbers but they would sell no matter what. IS300h is a perfect replacement for IS250 and considering how IS200t is not really any quicker why not have benefit of much better gas mileage.
