Default Jeeps

Anyone else run Jeep(s)? Specifically, the kind with solid axles front and rear, the only kind...

In addition to the Lexus I just picked up (and a loaded '13 F150 FX4) I have a couple of Jeeps for nice days and activities. That means I can start:

'05 TJ Rubicon

'98 XJ Cherokee

Truck for good measure, as sometimes I use it to tow a Jeep.

Congratulations.

Looks like you enjoy off-roading. Welcome to the 5% or so of truck/SUV owners who actually do so. (a somewhat higher percentage for Jeep Wrangler owners)

Lots of things to see out there that'd be a pretty long walk. Used to go around tracks in BMWs, but like this better.

Used to have a wrangler back in my college days. Have an FJ Cruiser now. Being in the NYC area, I only get out to the pine barrens in NJ about twice a year for some off roading.

had an xj in college, one of the best 3 cars I have ever had (other 2 were IS350 and tacoma). Solid build and would go anywhere I wanted.

Some insurance companies don't give you much choice.....they won't cover any off-road damage, though the definition of "off-road" may be subject to interpretation. But, with a vehicle as nice as a JGC, insurance or not, I'd share your concern about its paint job and trim deteriorating if you took it out in the boonies. That alone is reason, IMO, to keep it on regular paved roads....or mlld off-roading at most.

If something drastic happened you'd just get it home and then call insurance. "I rolled my Jeep in a ditch/hit a tree/etc out on Country Road ____ and drove/towed it home, when can I bring it by an adjuster?"

In reality, if you do any serious off-roading, you know you'll get the dents and don't particularly care. I had to wedge a jack between the tailgate and tire carrier once to bend a crunched exhaust pipe back, whatever. My skid plates and underside look like a war zone, it is what it is.
