Default 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Priced From $19,700 In The US, On Sale Next Week

Due to hit US showrooms early next week, the new 2017 5-door Civic hatchjoins the 2016 Sedan & Coupe models to complete Honda's 10th-generation US Civic lineup.

The starting MSRP of $19,700 represents the base-spec LX model which features a 6-speed manual transmission and a 1.5-liter turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine with 174 HP and 167 lb-ft (226 Nm) of torque.

There are five available trims in total (LX, Sport, EX, EX-L Navi & Sport Touring), where Sport and Sport Touring models pack a little more punch with 180 HP and 177 lb-ft (239 Nm) of torque. They also feature a dual-outlet center-mounted exhaust and were designed with premium unleaded fuel in mind.

In terms of fuel economy, Honda says the Civic Hatchback's turbocharged engine boasts class-leading EPA ratings of 31/40/34 mpg (7.5l/100km / 5.8l/100km / 6.9l/100km) in city/highway/combined cycles.

Inside, the 2017 Civic Hatch is said to deliver class-leading volume and cargo capacity as well as best-in-class rear seat legroom at (36 inches/91 cm). Key features include Honda Display Audio with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto (standard on EX and above trims), heated seats, power driver & front-passenger seats and remote engine start.

As for the flagship Sport Touring version, it comes with textured aluminum sport pedals, red-accented instrument illumination and a 540-watt 12-speaker premium audio system - the most potent to ever be offered in a Civic.

Frumpy body shape. Lost opportunity for Honda.

Yeah the hatch doesn't do it for me, but the new Civic is a great little car, my cousin has one. Interior is great. I drove it 5 hours back from WV and it was very comfortable for what it is, good seats, rides well reasonably quiet. I like the exterior styling of the sedan too.

I thought the previous Civic Hatch looked better in my opinion, but new Civic doesn't look too bad at all - far better effort than the Acuras.
Nice powerful 1.5L turbo punch and it revs reasonably smoothly and quietly, with a bit of tire noise on the highway, but I'm surprised they haven't really improved the idle NVH over the decades; I suspect they deliberately do this to force consumers to move into Accords and Acura luxuries.

Why does Honda keep beating their cars with the ugly stick? They take a basic design and exaggerate everything, get it together Honda.

Yeah....this interior sure beats those odd former double-decker instrument panels, where the speedo and tach were split between the usual spot behind the steering wheel and far out front above, at the base of the windshield.

All the materials in the interior are quite good too for the price point. I especially like the metal trim which is actually metal, and has a chameleon purplish finish to it that changes depending on the angle. Lots of good tech too, electronic parking brake, brake hold, full infotainment center, Apple CarPlay works great...

Yeah that Civic hatch is horrible and doesn't look to provide that much more utility over the sedan counterpart. I mean why can't they go retro here, Honda has made great looking hatches in the past . . . I know 2 doors are out, but a modern 4 door take on one of their old 90's hatches would've been neat.

Do you recall that from 2000 onwards, the Civic lost its double wishbone front and rear suspension, for cheap single lower link MacPherson struts up front, and trailing arms in the rear.
However, I can barely tell the difference in ride and handling between the old double wishbones and the new cheap single lower links, but then maybe I did not test drive the cars for long enough, however there can't be a huge difference.

2000-05 1.7

2005-10 1.8 & 2.0

2010-15 1.8 & 2.0 rehash.

From 2000 onwards, Civic went from 3 doors to 5 doors.
