Lexus ES is compact ? lol ......

 

I was thinking the same thing. They also list the Avalon as a large car, but isn't it pretty much the same size as an ES?

Now what doesn't make sense is the Mini being a top 3 reliable car in the compact sporty car when Mini is next to dead last in brand reliability

 

Indeed, but not by much (around 4 cubic feet of interior volume). Both the Avalon (interior volume 119.6 cu ft) and the ES (interior volume 115.3 cu ft) are classified by the EPA as mid size (110 - 119.9 cu ft).

Jaguar didn't make the list this year however Jaguar was above industry average in 2014.

 

ES was probably a compact when it first came out 25 years ago. JD Power just never bothered to change its class. Or, they had to slot in the GS somewhere (competitor of MB E-Class) so put the GS in the Midsize Premium class and left the ES in the Compact Premium class (with the Lincoln MKZ(?) and Lexus CT).

If JD Power only has 3 cars in the Compact Sporty class, the MINI will of course be in the "Top 3".

 

The original ES250 was 183in which is the current size of the IS. So very believable. Also price may be a factor, the current ES is 191in whereas the GS is 190in. So ES being grouped as compact might be influenced by price.

 

Mercedes and Cadillac have both made enormous strides lately. In the 1990s' and early 2000s, for example, both were near the bottom. Subaru, though, seems to be slipping. They were once near the top, and now are slightly below average. Buick seems to get better every year....second-place now on Lexus' tail for 2015, though it is still a 21-point spread.

 

Should automatically default to just one, two or none if the cars are horrible

 

The JDP catagories are crazy. Compacts that aren't compacts, midsizes, etc.
So it looks like the Lexus number slipped quite a bit. IS bringing it down? I think that's the only newer model someone (consumer reports) cried about, but that had more to do with drivability. What brought down Lexus's number from last year?

 

VDS rankings are for 3 year old cars, so this year's ranking should be about 2012 models ......

 

I'm surprised Hyundai is that low on the list!
