Default 2016 Acura MDX

Goes on sale tomorrow

Acura has unveiled the 2016 MDX, ahead of its launch later this month.

Looking virtually identical to its predecessor, the updated model features a number of interior changes including a frameless rearview mirror, Siri voice recognition and a Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines. There's also a new Easy Entry driver’s seat that moves 35mm rearward when the driver’s door is opened. Furthermore, the console-mounted shifter has been replaced by a shift-by-wire gear selector with push-button controls.

Under the hood, the 3.5-liter V6 engine is connected to a new nine-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift technology. It weighs 66 lbs (30 kg) less than the previous six-speed automatic transmission and shifts gears 25 percent faster.
The crossover also gains an improved Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system which is lighter and offers improved torque-vectoring capabilities.

On the safety front, there's an expanded AcuraWatch package which includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist System. The package also adds Road Departure Mitigation, Blind Spot Information and a Rear Cross Traffic Monitor.

The 2016 Acura MDX will go on sale tomorrow and pricing starts at $42,865 (excluding a destination charge of $920).

Good updates to the MDX. Also, a nice rolling shot of Portland, Oregon (from the Burnside Bridge) in the background. ;-)

Looks like you can. Before, the Advance was the only way to get the safety features. Now the package is available for any trim level.

Good updates, safe buy. I'd have liked to see more aggressive NSX design language. Perhaps the next one.

It's getting a $1000+ price increase, a decrease in fuel economy, the nine-speed automatic, some upgraded tech and safety goodies, and a push-button selector on the console. I'd take the cheaper price, traditional shifter, and better fuel economy of the '15 model.

$1,000 increase? base for base, it looks like it's only $100 more

thanks debbie downer. that $1000 increase (or $1100 i think it said in the article) is on the base model, which most likely has more standard equipment. on the top of the line it says the difference is only $100 more.

fuel economy changes 1 or 0 mpg depending on city/hwy and trim, hardly a big deal.

and you'd prefer a 6 speed auto over a 9 speed dual clutch transmission? u crazy.

Raising a base price $1100 on an aging model, whether you add more equipment or not, is risky. The first thing a potential customer will do on a dealer lot is look at the sticker. That just means there will likely be more incentives and subventing to offset the climb and keep people around. A car gets less appealing and sells less as it ages and fresher things come along. Making it more expensive does not help that situation.

In today's highly competitive and frantic race to achieve better fuel economy, any lowering of numbers is totally unacceptable and shocking. Virtually no manufacturer has brought out recent models with worse fuel economy. This is especially crazy and unexpected, considering the extra cogs of the more efficient transmission. If it weren't for the idle-stop feature, the numbers would be even worse. Shame on Acura.

It's not the extra speed transmission I loathe. It's the lack of a traditional shifter to grab and rest a hand on. I personally find it more comfortable to have my arm down low, where blood flows more freely, and decreases fatigue on long trips. Blood does not flow as well with arms raised up or straight out on a steering wheel. Pay attention to any long trip you are on, and you'll see you'll be constantly moving hands on and off the steering wheel to get more comfortable and wake things up. Of course, most people do not shift manually anyway, so it's a moot point.

I dont think it dual clutch . I had driven the TLX. The response gear change is terrible delay. Many people were complaining on the 9spds auto in Acurazin forum.
