Default Thoughts on Audi A5 3.2 2009?

Friend of mine is thinking about getting an Audi A5 but does not know much about them. Anybody on here ever owned one? Are they reliable cars? Trying to talk him into getting a Lexus but he likes the look of the A5. Thanks for the help.

The A5 looks great.
Audi reliability is said to be better the last few years but back to '09 models?

If he can afford the maintenance and repair bills, I'd say go for it! Quattro AWD baby!

2013 a6 here... No major issues except for a squeaky steering wheel now and then when its cold. 22k miles on it so its relatively young but planning on driving it into the ground.

The A5 has stunning looks, but Audi reliability was not as good back then as now. As a used, car, it would carry somewhat of a risk, and Audi service/repair costs tend to be high.

A few years ago I would have said go for it. A week ago at Running of the Bulls I sampled the RC F, M4, RC350 rwd/awd, 435i and A5. While the Audi has a decent powertrain, it is easily out dated in technology, aging design, and while still pretty, somewhat plain and boring compared to new offerings. Quattro is nice though.

From their Owner Surveys Consumer Reports rates the A5's Reliability as Well Below Average. Beginning with the 2012's it improved to Well Above Average.

I owned an '09 A5 3.2 S-Line. Loved the car. No issues, but I only put 10k miles on it. The only thing that bothered me was that the sunroof only tilted. I traded it for a '10 S5 Cab. Again, I loved the car. Just wanted more sun.

I love the looks of the A5 and seriously considered one but I don't care for all wheel drive. I can't explain why I just don't. So I bought a Mercedes Benz CL55 AMG, a well known maintenance nightmare but it's a damn sexy car and after researching the hell out of it decided I could handle it being a DYI guy.
