maybe they focused on fuel economy, refinement, reliability, etc... also very important!
i mean the car is still VERY fast.
They really haven't focused on much for the Hemi, although small improvements are on the way. The V8 isn't important at all in the grand scheme of things- just be happy the Charger Hellcat exists. FCA is (rightfully so) focused on upgrading the Pentastar V6 (turbo/DI) and getting the wildly overdue Hurricane I4 engine out.

Is this supposed to replace the 'Tigershark' 2.4 by chance?

It's serving as a replacement for the 2.0 chiefly, but since it will have the option of being turbocharged it will [eventually] take the place of the 2.4 as well. There are rumors there will be a 2.4L version of this engine as well...but if I had to guess it will be 2.0L only. This motor is also supposed to be the one powering the Dart SRT4 but no one seems to know if that model is truly happening or not.
To note, FCA currently has 11 different small engines. They will be cutting this down to one engine family in two displacement-per-cylinder sizes.
They should offer a 300 for all those guys who will buy it, immediately lift it and put 38" wheels under it. Oh and the skittles or M&M interior/exterior trim packages. ( Sorry I couldn't resist! )

Thanks for the info. Yeah the World Gasoline Engines (1.8, 2.0 and 2.4) used by Chrysler/Dodge, Mitsubishi and Hyundai need to be retired. The latter now features Fiat's MultiAir 2 tech though.
