Chrysler 300 diesel could get green light

Word has it Chrysler is keen to shove its new turbo diesel V6 into a range of models. Wards Auto reports Chrysler President and CEO Saad Chehab has made it clear the automaker is investigating the possibility of using the 3.0-liter oil-burner in the 300. While speaking at an Automotive Press Association luncheon, Chehab said, "It's a matter of how much the customer is willing to pay for that premium. That's the only issue with it."

The Chrysler 300 is sold as the Lancia Thema in Europe complete with a diesel of its very own, and since the Jeep Grand Cherokee is now available with the diesel V6 here in the States, it only makes sense that the engine could potentially show up on the 300 order sheet. Opting for the 3.0 V6 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee will set you back an additional $4,500, however.

Chehab also said the engine could make an appearance in the next-generation Chrysler 200, which is set to debut next year.

this is probably the most under-rated and under priced car in the midsize to large size market right now.

You can get a well equipped 300 brand new with leather 8.4" touch screen, power seats etc for 23k. About the same price as a base camry accord sonata.

my friend has one and the 8 speed tranny is freaking amazing. The pick up is very fast and you get a solid 24 to 25mpg mixed. For a full on completely legit full sized car that is pretty good. The LS hybrid only gets 22mpg mixed.

keep in mind this is not a punched out wanna be full sized car with mid sized under-pinnings, This is a full on legit, american full sized car with full sized under-pinnings. 24 to 25mpg mixed is freaking good for a full sized sedan.

You can literally get two 300S fully loaded for the price of one LS460.

I'd gladly pay 34k for a diesel version if it gives me a solid 36 to 40 mpg. I'll take that bet all day. The car is a freaking beast with no excuses to be american.

 

Depends on which version you are talking about. I reviewed a 300 SRT-8 model a couple of years ago, with the 6.2L Hemi, and it listed for almost 55K. That's serious money.

 

Heard they were clearing out the 2012 srt8 for 39k. Not sure if it's available any more.

but the 8 cylinder only comes in the older tranny. I think they are going to discontinue all 8 cylinder versions. With the 8 speed 6 cylinder, there's almost no need for the 8 cylinder. Maybe there is for some, but the 6 cyl felt very powerful for me.

But there's a 300c version in 6cylinder form thats equivalent to the SRT models, only difference being the 6 cylinder. Every bell and whistle u can imagine. Those sticker for 40. They are chopping off about 6k msrp right now. fully loaded to the max. Pano roof, front rear power seats, rear glass shade, cooled warmed cup holders, navi, voice, blind side warning, front side warning, rear camera, everything.

crazy thing is chrysler also offers this lifetime warranty for like 2k more, and it's good only for the first owner as long as u own the car. I don't know the details but with a warranty like that I don't have to worry about a thing....that's if chrysler is still in business then ya ? haha. But ya for about 40k out the door I can get a fully stacked 300c with lifetime warranty. It really does return steady 24 to 25 mpg mixed. That's pretty impressive.

Right now, Chrysler seems to be hitting all the right notes - and it's still the most underpriced car in the market - if you plan to drive it forever. Resale is still lagging, thanks to the nagging perception of poor quality that have plagued MoPar products for years (often deservedly so) that may cut into its resale value for the first five years or so. If you're looking for a good car for a bargain price, you might want to move a Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram to your short list.

While I'm not a fan of the 300 and I consider it competition to the Avalon and the like, throwing a high torque diesel in there could make it a true game changer...

 

I'm sorry but the 300 is a bully of the avalon. It scares the living krap out of the avalon.

 

Price wise, no. And its competitors put it to shame in terms of quality and interior. Only when you consider the hemi option does it begin to outshine, but then again you're paying for it.

 

Have you sat in the latest 300? Material quality is actually very good. Decent design, and a good palette of woods and interior colors.

 

The Chrysler 300 has a rather nice interior for the price.
