With this car, I see a nice evolution of Audi design, which has become downright boring in the last few years.
That said, this front end looks a lot like the Avalon and that grill shape seems to be a 2 year old fad between designs from Ford, Hyundai and Toyota. I think Audi's existing front end is a little more distinctive, but I also think they've done just about everything they can with those same shapes over a decade.
The shape of the Prologue reminds me of a mashup of A5 and S Class coupe... not a bad thing.
The extra wide grille is scarily approaching Ford Fusion levels. They are seriously running out of ideas.
One quick and easy improvement would be opening up the front intakes below the headlights. They are too restricted to be sporty or elegant.
Back end is clean, but soft and feminine like the Benz.
Overall, I'm not too wowed. It's a stingy design that could have exploited a more interesting greenhouse and masculine boot.
Audi A9 rendered as a Mercedes S-Class Coupe competitor
Based on the Prologue concept
X-Tomi has released another rendering, this time depicting a future flagship model for Audi, called the A9.
The virtual project is based on the currently introduced Prologue concept that will influence the next generation Audi A8. The all-new generation of the A8 is expected to debut in the end of 2016 with sales to start in 2017. Previous reports have suggested a two-door A9 version is also planned and it could come out sometime in 2017 with a "highly technical look", riding on an aluminum body.
What we have here on these renderings is a stylish two-door coupe featuring the Prologue front end with wide single frame grille, Matrix laser headlights and aggressive air vents. We also noticed some influences by the current TT, while the rear end clearly echoes the Prologue concept and its futuristic taillights.
Front end kind of reminds me of the Avalon. This will be interesting...
When I saw this at the show yesterday this was the first thing that popped into my head regarding the front. And the taillights with the top connecting bar reminded me of the new Saab 9-5.
