I think the car looks better in videos, check out this video from TFL Car:
Two things of interest:
1. No more power seat belt anchors (you'll see in the pictures). The LS is the only flagship car that has these, S Class doesn't even. LS has always had these and they're memory linked which I have always liked a lot. (FFWD to 2:22)
2. This is a biggie....they are studying AWD, but at launch it is only RWD. Very interesting. If this is true I think this is a huge deal, customers here and elsewhere really have become accustomed to AWD luxury cars, and it will be the only car in the segment that doesn't come AWD. (FFWD to 1:43).
I really have gotten used to the AWD, RWD only would be another huge roadblock to me purchasing one.

Sorry Bill but ya needs to go back to Lexus College.
I think a lot of the initial negative overreactions will fade when people actually see the car in person, as with every Lexus.

Yes they did, I saw this earlier. A lot of members are here are jumping to conclusions. One such jump was thinking that the new 3.5 is going to automatically be labelled the LS500. For all we know is that the 5.0 will be introduced at a later time

Maybe this is a stop gap for now to replace the old LS and the TT V8 with AWD and over 500 hp is coming next year.
I imagine the TT V6 will be offered in the LC500 at some point.
But that is also so confusing - you have LS500 that has a TT V6 and next to it a LC500 that has a V8 with both models brand new and coming out at same time.....very confusing how this was decided.

I cannot believe AWD is unavailable at launch. Agree this looks better in videos; it'll look even better in person. I look forward to seeing these in the valet line. Again, not my style but a welcome addition to the luxury landscape.
EDIT: That window line will always bother me though.

I would have rather seen this bored out to 4.0L and have it be the LS400.
If they do put the same engine in the LC, then they will have to call it something lower than the LC500...so you'd have the same engine in two models with different nomenclature.
Unfortunately the choice of LS500 to me implies we will not be seeing a V8 model that isn't an LS-F.

Because it isn't the same. The issue is not performance numbers, its engine feel and sound, and its status being a V8.

Here's the press beauty roll:

I agree. This new engine sounds like it is a superior engine. The specs alone tell the story.

I cannot remember back 06, but was AWD available at the launch of the LS460?

For those who are getting work up and in a tizzy.
From the press release:
The Sounds of Near Silence – or Great Music
Lexus tuned the LS exhaust to convey a more authoritative tone, yet also designed the cabin to ensure utterly quiet cruising. New sound suppression methods further hush the environment compared to previous LS models. Active Noise Control quiets the cabin even more by detecting the sound of the engine coming into the vehicle and cancelling certain frequencies using antiphase sound from the audio speakers.

They have not announced the Hybrid LS yet. Yet they show a photo of the interior of a Hybrid LS, either it was intentional or just a slip up, who knows.

Ok not talking about anyone in this forum, because it seems as thought most of you like the car now, which to be fair you should the car is avery great car, but I think the people who are saying it's ugly and not good are saying it for the fact that it's a Lexus and they have something against Lexus.

No, AWD did not come out on the LS460 until 2009. (2008, 2009 model year). BUT, AWD was not ubiquitous in the segment then. It is now...the LS500 would be the ONLY car without available AWD.
The other issue with that is the way Lexus ships cars. Here in the Mid Atlantic, the NE, the midwest you cannot get a RWD Lexus if an AWD version exists. They only inventory AWD cars. So a returning LS460 customer after 2009 they have to go from AWD to RWD if AWD is not available at launch. Thats a BIG deal...
From V8 to V6 AND from AWD to RWD...thats a tough sell.

For those also getting in a tizzy about lack of AWD or a lack of a V8. Please go to the Lexus pressroom and read that is states basic 2018 LS it does say Front Engine, RWD and AWD.
