Default Dodge Presses Pause On 2017 Viper Ordering

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has revealed that it has paused ordering for the 2017 Dodge Viper as production of the model's final production year continues.

In an email to The Detroit News, a Dodge spokeswoman revealed that while orders for the 2017 Viper aren't currently being accepted, order books will be re-opened once the firm determines how many units it can build before the end of the 2017 model year.

“Ordering is still closed for all Viper models. Again, the ordering system will be re-opened, but the timing on when that will happen is still to be determined,” she said.

Dodge started building 2017-spec Vipers in summer and it was recently revealed that asingle dealership in North Carolina had ordered 135 brand new Vipers, even going to the lengths of creating its own 'special edition' Vipers and assembly a dedicated team to help sell the cars.

Fiat Chrysler has confirmed that this order was genuine but hasn't backed up the dealer's claim that the order accounts for most of the remaining 2017 cars.

Default 1,500 HP Twin Turbo Viper Hits 167 Mph (268 Km/h) In 1/4 Mile Race

Getting a stock Viper to launch the way you want it to is hard enough, let alone one that puts down no less than 1,500 horses through the rear wheels.

You can see in the beginning of the video just how difficult it was for the Viper driver to put all that power down, though once he did, the car ran a 9.8-second quarter mile.

Its top speed over the same distance was 167 mph (268 km/h) during a separate run, but what's obvious is just how hard it is for this type of car to maintain traction as it builds up speed.

The twin turbo Viper also takes on a Z06 Corvette, which puts up a heck of a good fight, crossing the 1/4 mile marker in 10-seconds flat at 138 mph (222 km/h) - though the fact the Viper barely beat that time while going a lot faster, goes to show just how much it struggled.

In other words, you'll probably lose a lot of drag races in this thing if you're going up against a very powerful all-wheel drive opponent.
