I am just a bit surprised as to Lexus' reasoning to develop a new turbo 4cyl only to offer less HP than the competition that has had similar motors out for several years?? Then the 6 spd tranny.......hmmm.
Late to the party and yet outmatched by the competition. Not quite sure I understand it. Probably why I don't own a car company
Like all japanese automakers, im sure Lexus has something up their sleeves for better cars. I was a little disappointed to hear 235hp at 17psi though. I was just reading Ford released the specs for their Mustang EcoBoost engine specs and its 305hp at 15psi, and the ATS 2.0 puts out 270 at 12-15psi. That took me by surprise

Most of the 2L 4 banger turbo's are around that 7 second mark. I drove a fusion 2.0 ecoboost which has a bit more power but still around that 7 second mark. (6.8/6.9 i think they put it at). Plus its a 2 ton car (3940 gas -4200 Hybrid). Im sure if you can trim enough weight, it can get better 0-60 numbers.
The BMW X3 2.0t is at the head of the class for performance and class competitive in fuel efficiency right now. That might change as new or updated entries hit the market.
When shopping In this segment a while back I really did like the smooth linear V6's in the RDX and GLK.

I think I read that the engine can handle a maximum of 17lbs of boost. I'm sure that 235hp is being achieved well below 17lbs.
Looks nice but disappointed with the available powertrains; (HSD is ok)
....but a 6 speed transmission? really? on a 2015 car? sadly reminds me of Acura.
F-sport should have 19s, 18s should be standard. Wheels look way undersized here....
Completely agree and was going to mention. The tires, like on the CT and even IS, look too small. Much of the problem are the strange, black fender outlines here, which creates a bigger wheel gap and makes the wheels look smaller (at least on light-colored models). This trim should be body-colored.
I too, see no resemblance to the Rav-4.

Toyota/Lexus, outside of the Prius, has never been huge on first to market, or being top of the market. Internal restrictions make it pretty difficult to push the envelope. Tons of manufacturing capability constraints and reliability metrics. While some of these are good, many are also somewhat outdated or no longer apply. Toyota/Lexus is usually a fast follower... but.. not fast. So just a follower. Internally they even say themselves, that they're never ones to really do things fast or first.
very nice interior. exterior and drive train don't do much for me. drive train is probably 'ok' but nothing special. the 2.0 engine size works to fit in with tax rates and other regulations around the world. would be really nice if a v6 were available though.

they use smaller turbo so they get less lag... its spins easier and more. That turbo is stuffed full of tech though, a lot of it not found in no other engines... we will see how it compares but it should be much smoother and quiter experience than others (more like V6). It will likely get mid 6 0-60 by mags too.
Quite possibly thats just the start, with larger turbines pushing more hp, but this is likely going to be the sweetspot of the engine.

well, Prius, Rav4, RX? Hybrids, FCV's... DI, D4S before anyone else, lots of turbo's before regulations.... VVTI and its variations.
