I recently briefly considered putting a deposit on a 4Runner Limited since I do like the rugged boxy look, but seeing that I value a quieter, smoother ride, and more refined interior for my family hauler, it just fell short. Fuel economy too is an issue. I then considered the new Highlander. Impressive, but size is a little too big for me, so ended up putting a deposit on the NX.

2014 SR5 and Trail Edition have the vertical slashes, which spwolf posted a pic of a black SR5.

And then of course there's the TRD Pro for 2015 Model Year.

I'm surprised they split the look so drastically between the Limited and SR5 models. The white unit looks so much cleaner and agreeable.

The 4Runner may share a lot with the Prado, but a Prado being first and foremost a Land Cruiser is in a different league. Look at the price on the link here and it is clear that the Prado is almost twice the price of a 4Runner. divide Rand simply by ten to get Dollar.http://www.toyota.co.za/ (remember that it is the brother of your Lexus GX).
The Fortuner is the on frame version of the pick-up truck you'll see next to it and is in genre, price and abilities much nearer to a 4Runner.
Good to be part of CL and great to chat with you guys, shout if I can send you more about the Fortuner.

Pretty much what I expected via the review. As a 5 time 4runner owner, I must agree with other comments here, my 2003 and 2006 V8 Sport was my favorite model. My 2000 was nice too. All the 5th gen needs is 300hp, better tranny, and a more refined ride.

One can dream right

Surgery. That's the key word. It looks more like it's in the middle of a surgery.

The interior is nice though.

I've always liked 4runners but when the new one came out I just couldn't bring myself to like it. I thought it'll grow on me but it's been a few years and I still don't like it. The new refresh to me, just made it worse. I dp however like the interior a lot though.

If I was looking for a nice capable SUV, I'd definitely look elsewhere. I do see more Grand Cherokees than 4runners and boy are they great looking vehicles.

If you include off-road capability in your statement it can get controversial. Only the uninitiated would pick a Grand Cherokee before any Toyota product in Africa to do a real off-road trip. For that matter not even a Jeep Wrangler. Grand Cherokees are seen here as soccer mom's taxis and the Wrangler is for high school boys posing as macho. Not meaning to slam any product, but sad to think that very deep in a Jeep, well very very deep there must still be a gene in them of something almost holy like a ****** pick-up truck, but a ****** would rather deny it, if it could speak. Be sure to take a Toyota off-roader like a 4Runner along for the towing if you want to do real off-roading with a Grand Cherokee (or take a 1950's ****** pick-up truck along to really make sure you get home).

The front end is still nicer than some of the Lexus front ends, especially the brutal looking IS.

The 4Runner IMHO is nicer looking inside and out than the Lexus GX. The interior materials of the 4Runner are impressive and there are some nice little touches here and there.

Also, the lift up rear hatch is much better than the horrible GX rear design.

I stood up a lot on this thread for the 4Runner, so much so that nobody can be blamed if he/she calls me a 4Runnerist. However, I hear on Radio Tokyo that the guy who designed the headlight layout on the latest 4Runner, was last seen running down a Tokyo street followed by an angry club wielding mob. My Japanese is worse than my Greek but it sounded if it was also about his headlight design on the Prado.
