Some insider news indicates, it is quite certain that the next generation of Rolls-Royce Phantom will come with a V16 engine. This engine will be turbocharged, and has latest fuel saving technologies such as cylinder deactivation. The first vehicle equipped with this engine will be a two-seat Rolls-Royce roadster developed on the same platform of the next generation Phantom, projected MSRP will be closed to one million dollars.
To your surprise, BMW may probably launch this car in China first. According to our insider, BMW considers China to be its largest market, especially the 7 series nowadays. China’s luxury vehicle sales are projected to pass the 1 million mark this year. In 2013, BMW is the second largest luxury car brand in China, lagging behind Audi.
BMW is also working on a product which is more close to Rolls-Royce but bears a BMW logo, and it is rumored to be the 8 series, which will be pioneered by a concept car to be shown in the 2014 Beijing auto show between April 20 and April 29.
If the Phantom has V16 engine, it will be interesting to see how Bentley will react . In fact VW group has its own W16 engine available though...
Rolls has always been slightly more stately than Bentley, even if they do develop a V16 I don't personally see Bentley going anything past W12. VAG's W16 though seems to be exclusive for the Veyron only.
Whenever I heard about Rolls Royce 16 cylinder, the first thing that obviously comes into mind is the special Phantom Coupe in that Johnny English movie.

Man I wish GM had the ***** to produce the Cadillac Sixteen concept about 10 years ago.
I wonder what sort of displacement this new V16 will be? Hope its huge, with twin turbos, this should be putting out at least 800hp IMO. I mean 700hp would be nice, but Lamborghini and Ferrari are already doing that with 12 cylinders and no turbos.
