The 6th gen Camry LE we rented screamed cheap rental and seemed like it had UAW assembly quality

this year when purchasing a new car I told myself I would try to stay away from Toyota and focus on other brands, even domestics...but ended up with a 2014 Highlander, a model that Toyota seems to have really stepped up their game on. Hope this is a sign of good things to come.
The 2014 Highlander is good, especially its solid structure. See IIHS latest small overlap test, the highlander does not slide over the object to get a good rating, the safety cage is proved to be really strong.

You guys are wrong, the LS430 and SC430 are far from reliable

On my SC430, one side marker light and one fog light bulbs are burned out already

On my LS430, the tires are bald

The worse thing is, they constantly run out of gas, I am so sick of filling them up, oh and their oil needs to be change regularly. Not to mention they have to be wash and wax regularly so they don't look like crap. It is 2014, why can't we have maintenance free cars already.......sigh

As for interiors, some of you must be smoking the good stuff because 20 years ago a Lexus had incredibly durable materials that could take a serious beating and still look decent. The various interior bits now are very thin.

What has drastically improved is the overall look/design but that's to be expected. On the flip side, the original LS400 still looks good today inside and out. Compare it to other luxury cars of that era and they look extremely dated and crude.
Really, guess all the LX470 owners with up to 400k+ miles must just be lucky (1998-2007). From what I've seen and read the new 200 series LX570's are just as dependable and reliable. Pass the joint honey

I've owned both the FZJ80 series and several 100 series. Either one of these vehicles with required maintenance and care will be extremely reliable and dependable and last for as long as you want to drive it. The FZJ80 is more primitive where the 100 series is more luxury oriented. The 100 series is a bigger heavier vehicle, nothing was made any less bullet proof from the move from FZJ80 to the 100 series, actually the 100 series is more robust then the FZJ80. But don't get me wrong I would love to own a new FZJ80 again I would keep it forever. But since I don't I'm keeping my current 100 Series forever.

I owned a 100 series and I currently have my sister in laws LX450 sitting on my property. The 80 series is more stout, better built and longer lasting IMO. The steering is leaking on the 450 but everything else is still very solid. The 470 was good, but the 450 is legendary. Also, from what I understand, the LX105 series runs the 80 series frame and chassis/diesel with a 470 body.
