The topic was that there are regulations in most states that prohibits the use of cell phone while driving. There is no regulation to prohibit using the audio system or scratching our *** altho you might contend that are no more dangerous, no one really care. .

but they shouldn't be intently fiddling with their audio system either.

....or their CUE, or their MYTOUCH, or their SYNC, or their I-Drive, or their MMI, or their COMMAND system, or their I-Pod, or their MP3, or a lot of the other electronic crap they put into the dashes of new cars.

There was an article in the Philly Inquirer last year about this issue. PA enacted a new no-texting law, but cops said it's completely worthless, because even if they see you using your phone, they can't prove you were texting, and they have no right to take your phone and check the message logs to see if you were texting or doing something else.

But, if you are in NJ, where the law is hands free only, except in an emergency, they could nab you.

Correct--I can legally type in a destination address while flying down the highway at 80 mph (well, at least I could have in my old Honda, but not in my Lexus or Mazda....). But, in NJ, just holding the phone to my ear is a crime.

NFW--but I'm not breaking any laws. I'm not trying to advocate for legal texting and driving, but there is an arbitrariness to these laws that really can never be overcome.

People try to argue this--I just don't understand it. Of course your car has a higher resale value when you have in-car nav, you PAID more for it. But, as a % of what you originally paid, I'm very suspicious that 2, 3, 5 years down the line that old tech is somehow more attractive to the resale market.

Why don't we want a navigation in our car, esp when a Lexus/GS is the vehicle in question?

When we are talking pure navigation, the Lexus navigation is awful. I'm a big "map" guy, using MGRS on a daily basis for advanced mountain navigating. I much rather prefer my Droid's little screen utilizing Google maps compared to the Lexus navigation. I too would rather payfor an Internet based Google map link than the garbage we have now.

Adding phone integration for Google maps would make a lot of sense. You get a better product displayed on a bigger screen. I have to believe Google is working on this.

Didn't read all three pages of this thread, but I would never buy a car without GPS nav. In general, optioning for the nav makes the dash look better. You get less buttons, a screen, or larger screen in some cases, and it changes the whole look of the interior. that alone is enough to get my to buy the nav
