Why do we still have in-car GPS?
The topic was that there are regulations in most states that prohibits the use of cell phone while driving. There is no regulation to prohibit using the audio system or scratching our *** altho you might contend that are no more dangerous, no one really care. .

....or their CUE, or their MYTOUCH, or their SYNC, or their I-Drive, or their MMI, or their COMMAND system, or their I-Pod, or their MP3, or a lot of the other electronic crap they put into the dashes of new cars.
But, if you are in NJ, where the law is hands free only, except in an emergency, they could nab you.
i contend cell phones are no more dangerous than lots of other distractions in a vehicle, including passengers and scenery.

NFW--but I'm not breaking any laws. I'm not trying to advocate for legal texting and driving, but there is an arbitrariness to these laws that really can never be overcome.
People try to argue this--I just don't understand it. Of course your car has a higher resale value when you have in-car nav, you PAID more for it. But, as a % of what you originally paid, I'm very suspicious that 2, 3, 5 years down the line that old tech is somehow more attractive to the resale market.
california court rules using phone for navigation doesn't break laws there.

When we are talking pure navigation, the Lexus navigation is awful. I'm a big "map" guy, using MGRS on a daily basis for advanced mountain navigating. I much rather prefer my Droid's little screen utilizing Google maps compared to the Lexus navigation. I too would rather payfor an Internet based Google map link than the garbage we have now.
Didn't read all three pages of this thread, but I would never buy a car without GPS nav. In general, optioning for the nav makes the dash look better. You get less buttons, a screen, or larger screen in some cases, and it changes the whole look of the interior. that alone is enough to get my to buy the nav

Sometimes people think they can when in fact, they can't....or doubtful.
