I just want to thank all of you for helping fix my car. I like doing all the work myself. I changed both valve cover gaskets and as soon as I put everything back together making sure all the hoses and wires were hooked up properly, I reconnected the battery and started the car it idled fine at first then it started to idle at 200 rpm and eventually die out, reading through everyone's posts I drove the car around and let the ECU relearn what the idle settings are and my car runs like a champ. Anyhow, on your issue, it often takes the engine's ECU computer some time (and variation of driving styles) before it programs itself gets the correct RPM settings. This typically also happens when a battery fails or is disconnected for any reason.........like when you are getting a new one. You'll have erratic, up-and-down idling for a day or two....sometimes a little more.
