The first thing we noticed about Audi's new 2014 Detroit motor show-bound Allroad Shooting Brake Concept upon seeing the press shots was how close the exterior and interior are to the upcoming, third generation TT.

Even though Audi didn't say it outright, the Germans did mention that the two-door crossover provides a “concrete look into the near future”.

We saw the production cabin of the next TT at the CES in Las Vegas last week and while we patiently wait for Audi to fully release the car at a major international auto show this year, Hungarian designer X-Tomi cooked up a quick render of what the coupe may look like, based on the knowledge we obtained from the Detroit concept.

Audi has confirmed that the 2015 TT will make its official debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March.

At the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, Audi technical boss Ulrich Hackenberg also noted that the new TT coupe’s styling is previewed by the Allroad Shooting Brake concept the German automaker just revealed. As a result, the TT lineup has the potential to expand with a crossover model in the future.

In other words, don’t be surprised if a more rugged TT model shows up in the near future, invading other segments in the marketplace. “There is a trend for crossovers, shooting brakes and Allroad models, and we combined the TT with these concepts,” Hackenberg said.

Scheduled to make its official debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, these sketches of the 2015 Audi TT might be the best look we’ll have until then.

The official drawings reveal the TT’s sleek headlight design and more angular style while a single-frame grille and redesigned air ducts are just some of the styling elements heading the sports car’s way. Audi hopes to position its next-generation TT further up the model lineup, and to carry some more of a family resemblance to the R8 exotic. One small sing of that change is moving the four-ring emblem to the hood rather than the grille. Familiar to the TT’s design are the prominent fenders, a heavily curved roofline and liftback-style tailgate.

The new TT coupe will incorporate elements of Volkswagen’s MQB platform and is rumored to continue using a unique floorpan manufactured from high-strength steel and aluminum. The body of the TT will likely feature a mixture of steel and aluminum as well, considering Audi hopes to make its third-generation TT lighter than 2,775 lbs.
