No problems with my Lexus LS400
I got a message from Lexus forum saying, "Come see what you've been missing." I signed up for this forum right after I bought my 1993 LS400. It's a beautiful car that is a one owner car, garaged all of it's life and always meticulously serviced by Lexus.
I got right on this forum thinking I would get a head start on needing help. I've had several VOLVO'S over the past few years so I had no shortage of problems. Constant problems. Stupid problems... I also went out and bought a Lexus issued 1993 LS400 2 volume service manual.
Volvo's have lots of stupid problems. I had a 1992 Toyota Celica that was basically problem free. Other than the normal brakes, tires and oil changes the only actual problem I had was a starter. I bought it when it was just 2 years old with 100,000 miles on it. When I sold it 8 years later, I sold it for $2500 dollars. It had 298,852 miles on it. The amazing part was it still had the original exhaust and didn't burn or use a single drop of oil between oil changes (Every 3000 miles)... After 3000 miles, you still couldn't read the dipstick very well as the oil still looked new. I've had a couple other Celicas since.
So I'm back with Toyota. The best car manufacture on the planet. I just changed the oil in the Lexus and guess what? It didn't use any oil and the dirty oil was so clean that you could hardly read the dipstick... The only problem I've had was with a tail light. Someone had spliced in a new bulb receiver socket and it kept showing a bulb out on the dash. When things cooled off, the bulb would work again. I put a used tail light harness in and the problem disappeared. I think it was a bad ground. My girlfriend says I should name the Lexus "Lexisue". Guess what her name is? Susan. I love them both...

My Lexus had 149,600 when I bought it. It has 153,000 now. I love it... People can't believe it's a 1993 as it's been so beautifully maintained. It looks like new. I have the original build sheet...
If you maintain a 90's Lexus or Toyota, and don't drive it in the salt, they will literally last forever. My dad's 2000 Avalon has 232k on it, still runs/shifts like new, the interior looks mint, paint is nice except on the mirrors, it does use a quart of oil every 2000 to 3000 miles. Not a huge issue, just check the oil every time you fill up. Its still on the original shocks, but really it still rides nice. Granted it floats a little bit, but by old land barge standards its a gem, ie the steering isn't real sloppy.
Honestly for just mindless transport from point A to B, that Avalon is a BIG step above a comparable priced Camry, Civic, Accord, etc.
