Toyota exec talks BMW & Toyota designed new Supra
So by now you've all read this article, right? This confirms what the BMW collaboration has been about and undoubtedly will have something to do with an IN-LINE six engine, since the German company is pretty much the last in the world to use the cylinder configuration in passenger cars. I'd be very surprised if that were not the case.

If Toyota's incoming chairman gets his way, a new-age Supra will soon join the automaker's lineup.
Speaking at an event earlier today in Japan, Takeshi Uchiyamada, Toyota's next chairman, said that he would like to see the company's upcoming sports car – which is currently being co-developed with BMW – be a spiritual successor to the Supra, referring the iconic coupe that was discontinued in the United States following the 1998 model year.
"That's what I want but it's not me who makes the decision,” Uchiyamada said, according to Bloomberg, noting that Toyota's engineers will have the final say on the project. However, we haven't met an engineer yet that wouldn't jump at the opportunity to revive a storied sports car like the Supra.
Previous reports have suggested that Toyota could show off a concept version of its upcoming mid-size sports car as early as this fall's Tokyo Motor Show, but the Japanese automaker has yet to confirm those rumors.
BMW's plans for the sports car are a little less clear, but it could serve as the basis for another 1990s nameplate revival – the 8-Series.

I've been reading news like this for 15 years.. and Toyota always let you down. There is already a new "Supra-like" car by BMW its called the M6..! No need to waste time hoping for a Supra. If you can afford payments on $100K car, goto to nearest BMW dealer and drive off with a new 560 HP Twin turbo V8 beast & Call it a Grand Day..

I've been reading rumors like this for a long time as well but in this case both the CEO and new chairman want this and the work with BMW has already been happening. The 86 engineer is in charge apparently and he rejected the CVT hybrid design previewed in the FT-HS concept.
Toyota could pull a Nissan and drop the project yet again (240SX/Silvia 4-seater successor) or they could pull a Honda/Acura by building the *right* car (FR V8 NSX) and then canceling it just before production... but so far the news sounds a lot more solid than I've heard in years. Previously there have been a lot of wishy-washy "considering a new Supra" rumors and to date the one aforementioned horrendous hybrid concept car. We'll see.

Another rumor about the Supra, seems one comes out every 6 months- to a year, Ill believe it when i see it. No other car makers name should be on it other than TOYOTA or its not a Supra at all imo.
Yes i do think it will happen, its just a matter of time.
