Assuming the new 4.0L TT V8 is lighter than the old 4.2L V8, problem could be solved all while gaining much more torque

 

That's my point and the issue... not the quattro, the extra engine weight is throwing off the handling I LOVE in the S5... but I want to drive this beast out at Road America... although it won't handle like the ZR1 I finally drove

 

Curb weight is only 150 lbs more than the S5, and most of that is solely due to the sport differential which is standard on the RS5, and is not standard on the S5.

Since that extra weight results in substantially increased handling, I really don't get the complains of "it's too heavy" if the S5 is NOT too heavy.

If we compare a 2012 A8 4.2 vs a 2013 A8 3.0T, we see the different in weight is only 33 lbs. In all other respects the car is the same. I realize this is not the same V8, but even still it's not a significant weight difference. The 3.0T is based on the discontinued 3.2 V6, so the basics of the design are quite old.

 

i think it can all depends on design as well. not saying this car in particular, it can e suffering from the weight.

the e9x 335 went with a heavier v8 on the m3, but the m3 kills the 335 in handling

 

Of course is tuning, with all things being equal, the car with the lighter engine would handle better.

 

but that's exactly my point. just because the v8 is heavier (and as infra posted only 150lb) doesn't mean it's automatically worse.

I didn't know what they were talking about anyway, the S5 had a 4.2L V8 before, so that was the same weight and I don't think the new supercharged V6 is any lighter then the V8 anyway.

If the RS5 is indeed heavier, it is from the huge wheels, huge brakes...............not so much from the engine itself.

BTW, this RS5 is HOT looking, and the high revving NA V8 is hot too, really the only direct competitor to the V8 M3. Now hopefully someone can do a proper direct comparison, not those bogus M3 vs. S5 comparison before.
