and of course government agencies should not be seen driving a lexus since luxury = waste of tax dollars in the eyes of general population

my uncle had lx450. 3rd row was too small, but other than that it was just a sweet ride. just loved the classy/no nonsense look. and it turned heads too. back then suv really didn't dominate the market yet.

Lexus LX 450d Trademarked in Australia
Lexus has trademarked the LX 450d nameplate in Australia, opening the door to speculation that the brand is readying their very first diesel SUV.
The 450d designation would suggest a 4.5L diesel engine, likely the same 1VD-FTV twin-turbo diesel engine currently offered on the Australian Toyota Land Cruiser. This engine produces 261 hp and 479 lb.ft of torque.
Despite the brand’s focus on hybrid technology, the possibility of a diesel SUV was mentioned by Lexus International vice-president Mark Templin in a Drive Australia interview last year.
(There’s likely a very small global market for twin-turbo diesel LX, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see sales limited to just the Australian market.)

Lexus should bring the Sequoia to the Lexus side and compete with the likes of the Escalade. I can imagine a Sequoia based LX 570L...more interior room and more luxury...

For me I'd like to see Lexus drop the LC bones for the next LX and make the LX a unibody. Leave the LC and chassis for Toyota but instead go after the Range Rover with less weight, more cabability and more comfort in a unibody package. The Lexus needs to be more distinct than it currently is.

I agree, a Sequoia based LX would be killer!!! They could charge more, and it would better compete with Cadillac and the Escalade.

Although I haven't looked at the latest versions of the two in close detail, for years, the LX was basically just a Land Cruiser with some different trim and a device that raised/lowered the suspension height.

Lexus LX570 is Your Ticket to Body-on-Frame Luxury Land
Body-on-frame vehicles usually win a certain part of the automotive audience who are seeking tough cars that are capable off the road and don't care about ultimate onboard luxury. However, if you do seek these two traits in one single vehicle, then the Lexus LX570 is one of your best bets.
Basically, a much posher version of the familiar Toyota Land Cruiser, the LX has extreme off-road capability, all manner of settings for the driver to play with and keep it rolling even when the terrain gets treacherous.
It’s Lexus’ interpretation of a Range Rover, blending the same qualities as the British SUV, but using a different formula to get there. Actually, it’s not a Range rival, but more of a Discovery-type of vehicle in concept.
CNET’s Brian Cooley got behind the wheel of an LX570, and his impression was a generally positive one of both the vehicle and its tech level. It’s obviously not a new model, and that shows in certain areas, particularly in the gadgets department, but for what it is, it’s actually not a bad proposal, if you can ignore getting (a claimed, but probably not achievable) 12 mpg in town.

Very nice LX commercial...at the end the RX and GX makes an appearance which I thought was cool...
A new commercial will need to include the NX as well...
