It's about time Lexus allowed an Apple iPad or Google Nexus 7 to be plugged in and integrated, ergonomically, to support some vehicle navigation and/or basic functions.
The Tesla Model S has one heck of a console (17-inch display):

yep, gotta admit...the 17" is very cool....its the next thing to get size increases every year....currently the the GS has a 12.3 inch...not bad...but I like the Tesla's integration and versatility.
But the Tesla is NOT an iPad or a Google Nexus. So why would another OEM allow for integration of something they ultimately don't have control over?
There will be better integration of bluetooth and siri control buttons for your existing smartphone, but I doubt we'd see something like an OEM dock in the dash. Luckily the aftermarket will give you all the support you want for such projects.
youre going to have to navigate multiple menus and submenus to accomplish a simple task like turning the AC on or changing the station. IMO partial integration with things you dont use that often along with hard buttons for things you do use often is better
